BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to histologically evaluate periodontal healing following flap surgery in intrabony periodontal defects to determine the influence of the number of bone walls on periodontal regeneration. METHODS: One-, 2-, and 3-wall intrabony periodontal defects were surgically produced at the proximal aspect of mandibular premolars in either right or left jaw quadrants in six beagle dogs. Mucoperiosteal flaps were positioned and sutured to their presurgery position f

SJR Q1Journal of Dental ResearchOA

The purpose of this study was to determine the clinical, microbial, and radiographic effects of local minocycline combined with surgical treatment of peri-implantitis. Fifty patients with peri-implantitis were recruited, and surgical treatment with the local application of either minocycline or placebo ointment was performed. The application of minocycline was repeated with supragingival debridement at 1, 3, and 6 mo postoperatively. Plaque index, gingival index (GI), probing pocket depth (PPD),

SJR Q1Advanced Functional Materials

Abstract In this study, pentacene thin‐film transistors (TFTs) operating at low voltages with high mobilities and low leakage currents are successfully fabricated by the surface modification of the CeO 2 –SiO 2 gate dielectrics. The surface of the gate dielectric plays a crucial role in determining the performance and electrical reliability of the pentacene TFTs. Nearly hysteresis‐free transistors are obtained by passivating the devices with appropriate polymeric dielectrics. After coating with

SJR Q1Journal Of Clinical PeriodontologyOA

AIM: Autogenous bone grafts and bone biomaterials are being used as part of protocols aiming at reconstruction of periodontal defects. There is a limited biologic information on the effect of such materials on periodontal healing, in particular aberrant healing events that may prevent their general use. The objective of this study was, using histological techniques, to evaluate periodontal healing with focus on root resorption and ankylosis following implantation of autogenous bone and a coral-d

Autogenous Mesenchymal Stem Cells from the Vertebral Body Enhance Intervertebral Disc Regeneration via Paracrine Interaction: An in Vitro Pilot Study

SJR Q1Cell TransplantationOA

Several in vivo studies have found that transplanting mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into degenerative intervertebral discs (IVDs) leads to regeneration of disc cells. Since the exact underlying mechanisms are not understood, we investigated the mechanisms of action of MSCs in regeneration of degenerative IVDs via paracrine actions. Human MSCs and degenerative disc cells from the same donor vertebrae were directly or indirectly cocultured. The multidifferentiation potential, cell proliferation, c

SJR Q1Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related ResearchOA

BACKGROUNDS: Clinical benefits in bone grafting of intact extraction socket have been widely known, but limited evidence is available for the procedure in damaged extraction sockets due to periodontal disease. PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the dimensional alteration of alveolar ridge following bone grafting of damaged extraction sockets, and compare the outcomes of using deproteinized bovine (DBBM) versus porcine bone mineral (DPBM) in the damaged sockets. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hun

SJR Q1BMB ReportsOA

Cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases are major health threats in many developed countries. Recently, target tissues derived from human embryonic stem (hES) cells and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), such as cardiomyocytes (CMs) or neurons, have been actively mobilized for drug screening. Knowledge of drug toxicity and efficacy obtained using stem cell-derived tissues could parallel that obtained from human trials. Furthermore, iPSC disease models could be advantageous in the deve

BACKGROUND: Clinical benefits of local antibiotics as an adjunct to nonsurgical treatment of peri-implantitis have been widely reported, but most studies evaluated incipient peri-implantitis lesions, and showed incomplete treatment success rates. PURPOSE: To assess the clinical and microbiological outcomes of administering metronidazole in combination with minocycline as a local adjunct to the nonsurgical treatment of peri-implantitis. OBJECTIVES: Implant osteotomy yields a substantial amount of bone in the form of bone chips entrapped within drill flutes, and can provide a promising cell source for tissue engineering. The aims of this study were to isolate human alveolar bone-derived stromal cells (hABCs) obtained during implant osteotomy, and to evaluate osteogenic differentiation capacity of hABCs. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Bone chips were obtained by minimally irrigated implant drilling technique from 10 human donors. Isolated
