15Diffusion-weighted imaging allows reliable prediction of poor neurologic outcome in comatose patients treated with target temperature management after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Further prospective validation study will be required to generalize this result.
Recently, the number of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases has increased remarkably in South Korea, so the triage clinics and emergency departments (ED) are expected to be overcrowded with patients with presumed infection. As of March 21st, there was a total of 8,799 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 102 related deaths in South Korea that was one of the top countries with high incidence rates [1]. This sharp increase in infection is associated with 1) outbreaks in individual provinces, 2)
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Emerging evidence supports artificial intelligence-enhanced electrocardiogram (AI-ECG) for detecting acute myocardial infarction (AMI), but real-world validation is needed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of AI-ECG in detecting AMI in the emergency department (ED). METHODS: The Rule-Out acute Myocardial Infarction using Artificial intelligence Electrocardiogram analysis (ROMIAE) study is a prospective cohort study conducted in the Republic of Korea from
More than one-quarter of the OHCA survivors (26.8%) were discharged with good neurologic outcomes. TH performance was appropriately managed in terms of the factors related to its timing, including cooling start time and rewarming duration.
Paid work, non-alert consciousness, and major injury to head and neck are relating factors to severe injuries in the elderly population.
AIM: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical characteristics, including floor characteristics and factors, related to severe injury from outdoor falls in older adults. METHODS: Patients were divided into two groups based on injury severity: the severe group and non-severe group. The clinical and general characteristics were compared between the two groups, and factors associated with severe injury were investigated. RESULTS: Approximately 5% (364/7635) of older people involved
BACKGROUND: Guidelines have recommended monitoring mean arterial pressure (MAP) and systolic arterial pressure (SAP) in cardiac arrest patients, but there has been relatively little regard for diastolic arterial pressure (DAP) and heart rate (HR). We aimed to determine the prognostic significance of hemodynamic parameters at all time points during targeted temperature management (TTM). METHODS: We reviewed the SAP, DAP, MAP, and HR data in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survivors from the
Background: Falls from low-height can cause severe injuries in the elderly population. This study was conducted to determine characteristics of injuries from low-height falls. Methods: We retrospectively review surveillance data on injured patients who presented to six emergency departments from January 2011 to December 2015. Study subjects were divided into severe group and non-severe group based on severity of injury. The general and clinical characteristics were compared between the two group
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the epidemiologic characteristics of patients who visited emergency departments (EDs) after intentional poisoning in Korea. Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed the data of of 23 hospitals during a five-year period, between 2011 and 2015. We included patients who inflicted injury to themselves - attempt of suicide - by means of poisoning. Results: A total of 18,121 patients visited an ED after intentional poisoning. Among them, 58.3%
OBJECTIVE: To prove the extents and details of cervical degeneration after anterior microforaminotomy (AMF) with 6-years follow-up. METHODS: A retrospective study of 24 patients, underwent single-level AMF, was performed. Clinical and radiologic data were analyzed with office charts, questionaires, and picture achieving and communication system images. RESULTS: According to Odom's criteria, 91.6% achieved favorable outcome. The mean visual analog scale score was improved from 8.6 to 3, and the m
Purpose: Trauma-induced suppression of cellular immune function likely contributes to sepsis, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and death. T cell proliferation decreases after traumatic stress. The addition of prostaglandin E_2 (PGE_2), which depresses immune function after hemorrhage and trauma, to T-cells decreases T-cell proliferation; and hypertonic saline restores PGE_2-induced T-cell suppression. Recently, it has become apparent that macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) plays a c
Purpose: Assessment of the trauma severity associated with the prognosis of trauma patients. But we are having a lot of difficulties in assess the severity because of scarcity of current first-aid records resources.
