연구실 소개
류철형 교수의 연구실은 신경퇴행성질환, 특히 퇴행성 운동장애와 뇌철분축적 뇌질환(NBIA)을 중심으로 한 신경영상 및 유전체학적 연구를 수행하고 있습니다. 주로 푸르트로닉 페트(18F-AV-1451)를 활용한 타우 단백질 병변의 영상 분석과 함께, 약물유도 파킨슨증, 루이소체병, 진행성 위상마비 등 다양한 신경질환의 병태생리학적 기전을 밝히는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 특히, 유전적 원인과 영상 소견 간의 연관성을 규명함으로써 조기 진단 및 개인 맞춤 치료 전략 수립에 기여하고자 합니다.

Neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation (NBIA) refers to a group of rare diseases that share clinical characteristics associated with excessive iron accumulation in the basal ganglia as well as progressive neurological deficits, such as chorea, dystonia, parkinsonism and cognitive impairment.
18F-AV-1451 is a tau PET ligand that has high affinity for paired helical filament tau. However, various off-target bindings unrelatedto tau have also been reported. Herein, we report a case of 83-year-old woman, who showed abnormal uptake of AV-1451 thatwas shown to be subacute infarction. Clinicians should recognize that increased uptake of AV-1451 may be related to stroke.

Objective: Patients with drug-induced parkinsonism (DIP) may have nigrostriatal dopaminergic degeneration. We studied the clinical features that may indicate nigrostriatal dopaminergic degeneration in patients with DIP. A patient with Parkinson's disease developed fluctuation in the deep brain stimulation (DBS) effect, an unpleasant left facial paresthesia and the left limb dystonia. Impedance of the right DBS was over 2000 ohm in three proximal contacts. Skull X-ray studies showed partial breakage of right electrode lead below the mastoid process. Partial electrode breakage must be considered when there is a deterioration of the DBS effect, an unexpected side effect of DBS, and an alteration of impedance.
Spinocerebellar ataxia type 6 (SCA6) is classified as a CAG repeat disorder, where the number of expanded CAG repeats often undergoes meiotic instability, when transmitted from one generation to the next. However, in SCA6, both normal and expanded CAG repeats tend to remain stable during transmission due to its relatively small repeat numbers. We herein report de-novo expansion of CAG repeats in SCA6 gene in a 41-year-old female patient, whose parents had normal repeat numbers.
