Enabling nanotechnology with self assembled block copolymer patterns
Cheolmin Park, Jongseung Yoon, Edwin L. Thomas
SJR Q1PolymerOA

Block copolymers (BCPs) have received great attention for the past 40 years but only within the past decade have they been seriously considered for nanotechnological applications. Their applicability to nanotechnology stems from the scale of the microdomains and the convenient tunability of size, shape, and periodicity afforded by changing their molecular parameters. The use of the tensorial physical properties of BCPs in such areas as transport, mechanical, electrical, and optical properties wi

The development of pressure sensors that are effective over a broad range of pressures is crucial for the future development of electronic skin applicable to the detection of a wide pressure range from acoustic wave to dynamic human motion. Here, we present flexible capacitive pressure sensors that incorporate micropatterned pyramidal ionic gels to enable ultrasensitive pressure detection. Our devices show superior pressure-sensing performance, with a broad sensing range from a few pascals up to

SJR Q1Advanced Functional MaterialsOA

Abstract Here, a facile route to fabricate thin ferroelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)/poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) blend films with very low surface roughness based on spin‐coating and subsequent melt‐quenching is described. Amorphous PMMA in a blend film effectively retards the rapid crystallization of PVDF upon quenching, giving rise to a thin and flat ferroelectric film with nanometer scale β ‐type PVDF crystals. The still, flat interfaces of the blend film with metal electrode an

The photocurrent conversions of transition metal dichalcogenide nanosheets are unprecedentedly impressive, making them great candidates for visible range photodetectors. Here we demonstrate a method for fabricating micron-thick, flexible films consisting of a variety of highly separated transition metal dichalcogenide nanosheets for excellent band-selective photodetection. Our method is based on the non-destructive modification of transition metal dichalcogenide sheets with amine-terminated poly

Prior to the advent of the next-generation heater for wearable/on-body electronic devices, various properties are required, including conductivity, transparency, mechanical reliability, and conformability. Expansion to two-dimensional (2D) structure of metallic nanowires based on network- and mesh-type geometries has been widely exploited for realizing these heaters. However, the routes led to many drawbacks such as the low-density cross-bar linking, self-aggregation of wire, and high junction r

SJR Q1Advanced Materials

Spreading liquid droplets on solid surfaces is a core topic in physical chemistry with significant technological implications. Liquid metals, which are eutectic alloys of constituent metal atoms with low melting temperatures, are practically useful, but difficult to spread on solid surfaces because of their high surface tension. This makes it difficult to use liquid metals as deformable on-board microcircuitry electrodes, despite their intrinsic deformability. In this study, it is discovered tha

Abstract Despite the excellent photoelectronic properties of the all‐inorganic cesium lead iodide (CsPbI 3 ) perovskite, which does not contain volatile and hygroscopic organic components, only a few CsPbI 3 devices are developed mainly owing to the frequent formation of an undesirable yellow δ‐phase at room temperature. Herein, it is demonstrated that a small quantity of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) added to the precursor solution effectively inhibits the formation of the yellow δ‐phase during fi

Design of materials to be heat-conductive in a preferred direction is a crucial issue for efficient heat dissipation in systems using stacked devices. Here, we demonstrate a facile route to fabricate polymer composites with directional thermal conduction. Our method is based on control of the orientation of fillers with anisotropic heat conduction. Melt-compression of solution-cast poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and graphene nanoflake (GNF) films in an L-shape kinked tube yielded a lightweight

Free-standing and film-type moisture-driven energy generators (MEGs) that harness the preferential interaction of ionized moisture with hydrophilic materials are interesting because of their wearability and portability without needing a water container. However, most such MEGs work in limited humidity conditions, which provide a substantial moisture gradient. Herein, we present a high-performance MEG with sustainable power-production capability in a wide range of environments. The bilayer-based

The development of high-performance printable electrical circuits, particularly based on liquid metals, is fundamental for device interconnection in flexible electronics, motivating numerous attempts to develop a variety of alloys and their composites. Despite their great potential, rewritable and printable electronic circuits based on liquid metals are still manufactured on demand. In this study, we demonstrate liquid metal-based hydrogels suitable for rewritable, printable electrical circuits.
