Queueing analysis of explicit priority assignment partial buffer sharing schemes for ATM networks
Chung G. Kang, Hark Hoe Tan

A theoretical analysis of the cell loss probability performance of an explicit priority assignment partial buffer sharing scheme for asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks is provided. A two-service-class traffic model is used in which each service class consists of bursty traffic generated by a multiple number of discrete-time Markov sources. The effect of cell loss probability on both traffic load and burstiness characteristics, as well as on system parameters such as buffer size and buffer

Dynamic Bandwidth Part Allocation in 5G Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles with High Data Rate Traffic
Minsig Han, Jaewon Lee, Minjoong Rim, Chung G. Kang
SJR Q1SensorsOA

The 3GPP standardized the physical layer specification in 5G New Radio to support enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) coexistence in usage scenarios including aerial vehicles (AVs). Dynamic multiplexing of URLLC traffic was standardized to increase the outage capacity. DM allocates a fully overlapped bandwidth part (BWP) of eMBB and URLLC AVs to perform the immediate scheduling of URLLC traffic by puncturing ongoing eMBB traffic. However, DM ofte

The Performance of Relay-Enhanced Cellular OFDMA-TDD Network for Mobile Broadband Wireless Services
Kyung-Mi Park, Hyun S. Ryu, Chung G. Kang, Daeyoung Chang, Seungho Song, Jongguk Ahn, Jong-Tae Ihm
SJR Q2EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and NetworkingOA

A multihop relay (MR) and repeater are useful means for improving system throughput and coverage in a cellular mobile packet access system, as the carrier-to-interference ratio can be improved when deploying them in a heavily shadowed region. In this paper, we report on our investigation of bandwidth efficiency and the associated service outage performance for different relay scenarios, using system level simulation for a cellular Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access-Time Division Duple

Contention-free distributed dynamic reservation MAC protocol with deterministic scheduling (C-FD/sup 3/R MAC) for wireless ATM networks
Chung G. Kang, Chang Wook Ahn, Kyung Hun Jang, Woo Sik Kang
SJR Q1IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications

This paper proposes a novel MAC protocol for wireless ATM networks, which is characterized by a contention-free mechanism of the reservation request and a deterministic nature of mobile-assisted (distributed) uplink scheduling under a framework of the dynamic reservation TDMA, as discussed in the current standardization activities of ETSI Project BRAN (broadband radio access network) and the wireless ATM working group in the ATM Forum. The design objective of the proposed MAC protocol is to guar

NOMA-Based Grant-Free Massive Access for Latency-Critical Internet of Things: A Scalable and Reliable Framework
Chung G. Kang, Ameha T. Abebe, Jinho Choi
SJR Q1IEEE Internet of Things Magazine

From a system-level point of view, a grant-free random access protocol for latency critical internet of thing (IoT) must be designed to trade resource efficiency and target performance in a scalable manner. To this end, its performance characteristics must be fully understood by identifying the underlying physical-layer structure and constraints. In this article, we present a comprehensive structure of contention transmission unit for grant-free random access that employs a multi-signature sprea

Vacuum Die Casting Process and Simulation for Manufacturing 0.8 mm-Thick Aluminum Plate with Four Maze Shapes
Chul Kyu Jin, Chang‐Hyun Jang, Chung G. Kang
SJR Q2MetalsOA

Using vacuum die casting, 0.8 mm-thick plates in complicated shapes are manufactured with the highly castable aluminum alloy Silafont-36 (AlSi9MgMn). The sizes and shapes of the cavities, made of thin plates, feature four different mazes. To investigate formability and mechanical properties by shot condition, a total of six parameters (melt temperatures of 730 °C and 710 °C; plunger speeds of 3.0 m/s and 2.5 m/s; vacuum pressure of 250 mbar and no vacuum) are varied in experiments, and correspon

Adaptive delay threshold-based priority queuing scheme with opportunistic packet scheduling for integrated service in mobile broadband wireless access systems
Chung G. Kang, T.W. Kim, J.H. Kim
SJR Q1IEEE Communications Letters

In this letter, we propose a novel method of implementing an opportunistic priority queuing scheme that supports both latency-sensitive real-time (RT) and best-effort non-realtime (NRT) service classes in mobile broadband wireless (MBWA) systems. It employs an adaptive delay threshold as a dynamic reference of prioritizing the urgent RT service users over others, which allows for fully leveraging the multiuser diversity gain of NRT service users under the varying system conditions. It is shown t

SJR Q2MetalsOA

The microstructural characteristics of a simulated heat-affected zone (HAZ) in SA213-T23 (2.25Cr-1.6W steel) used for boiler tubes employed in thermal power plants were investigated using nital, alkaline sodium picrate, and Murakami’s etchants. In order to investigate the microstructure formation process of the HAZ in the welding process, simulated HAZ specimens were fabricated at intervals of 100 °C for peak temperatures between 950 and 1350 °C, and the microstructural features and precipitate

System-Level Performance of Limited Feedback Schemes for Massive MIMO

SJR Q2ETRI JournalOA

To implement high-order multiuser multiple input and multiple output (MU-MIMO) for massive MIMO systems, there must be a feedback scheme that can warrant its performance with a limited signaling overhead. The interference-to-noise ratio can be a basis for a novel form of Codebook (CB)-based MU-MIMO feedback scheme. The objective of this paper is to verify such a scheme's performance under a practical system configuration with a 3D channel model in various radio environments. We evaluate the perf

Adaptive yielding scheme for link scheduling in OFDM-based synchronous device-to-device (D2D) communication system
Chung G. Kang, Jin W. Kim, Hye J. Kang, Minjoong Rim
SJR Q2EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and NetworkingOA

Compared to asynchronous contention-based random access, e.g., carrier sensing multiple access, synchronous and distributed link scheduling for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems is a viable solution to improve system throughput for device-to-device (D2D) ad hoc network. In particular, spatial spectral efficiency can be improved by scheduling as many concurrent D2D links necessary to satisfy individual signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) requirements. In this paper, we prop

Throughput Analysis of Band-AMC Scheme in Broadband Wireless OFDMA System
Sung K. Kim, Chung G. Kang
SJR Q2EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and NetworkingOA

In broadband wireless Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems where a set of subcarriers are shared among multiple users, the overall system throughput can be improved by a band-AMC mode that assigns each suband, a set of contiguous subcarriers within a coherence bandwidth, to individual user with the better channel quality. As long as channel qualities for the subbands of all users are known a priori, multiuser and multiband gains can be simultaneously achieved with opport
