배충식 교수의 연구실은 내연기관의 고성능 및 고효율화를 위한 핵심 기술 개발에 중점을 두고 있습니다. 특히 직접 인젝션 스파ark 점화 엔진의 분사 특성 제어, 피스톤-실린더 벽면의 마찰 저감 기술, 그리고 배기열 회수를 위한 열교환기 설계 등에서 실험적·실험 기반의 정밀 분석을 수행하고 있습니다. 이는 엔진의 내구성 향상과 온실가스 감소에 기여하는 실용적인 기술 혁신을 목표로 합니다.
