15To test the psychometric properties of the Subjective Units of Disturbance Scale (SUDS), this study analyzed the data from 61 patients treated with EMDR. The pretreatment self-reported questionnaires, the in-session records of EMDR, and the Clinical Global Impression–Change (CGI-C) scale at the termination of EMDR were reviewed. The initial score of the SUDS at the first session was significantly correlated with the patient’s level of depression, the state anxiety, and distress from the impact o
OBJECTIVE: The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) is perhaps the most widely used and well-studied retrospective measure of childhood abuse or neglect. This study tested the initial reliability and validity of a Korean translation of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ-K) among non-psychotic psychiatric outpatients. METHODS: The CTQ-K was administered to a total of 163 non-psychotic psychiatric outpatients at a university-affiliated training hospital. Internal consistency, four-week test-r
Using clinical data from a specialized trauma clinic, this study investigated pretreatment clinical factors predicting response to eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) among adult patients diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Participants were evaluated using the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS), the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised, the Beck Depression Inventory, and the Dissociative Experiences Scale before treatment and were reassessed using the CAPS after
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of empowering leadership at the team level on employees’ subjective well-being (SWB) and work performance through perceived social support. Based on social exchange theory (Blau, 1964), the study identifies the mediating effects of perceived social support in the relationship between empowering leadership and both employees’ well-being and work performance. Design/methodology/approach The study utilized a survey of 1,225 employees worki

The study reports the prevalence and correlates of sexual and physical abuse in a sample of 100 female inpatients with schizophrenia in South Korea. Clinical assessment interviews consisted of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale, the Scale for the Assessment of Positive Symptoms, an interview assessing history of sexual and repeated physical abuse, and demographic and psychosocial factors. Lifetime prevalence of severe sexual or physical abuse was 52%. Compared with nonabused patients (n =
Background: Previous studies on of the dissociative subtype of posttraumatic stress disorder (d-PTSD) have relied on specialized statistical methods (i.e. profile or class analyses) for diagnosis than clinical rating available to clinicians. Objective: This study investigated the prevalence and covariates of d-PTSD diagnosed by a semi-structured interview in a cohort of outpatients with DSM-IV PTSD in a specialized trauma clinic in South Korea.Method: Data from 249 patients with civilian PTSD wer
This article reviews existing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) literature concerning its effectiveness, theory, mechanism, and procedural aspects in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Evidence from randomized clinical trials and meta-analyses indicates that EMDR is as effective as well established treatments such as exposure and cognitive behavior therapy. And moreover, EMDR may be more efficient in terms of unnecessary homework assignment and fewer treat
The Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES) is the most widely used self-report tool for use with the general population and various clinical entities, including those with schizophrenia. This preliminary study tested the reliability of the DES, especially temporal stability and validity, in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia receiving inpatient or outpatient treatment. The DES was administered at a university-affiliated training hospital in South Korea to a total of 68 patients (39 inpatients a
Background This study examined whether a particular type of childhood trauma (CT) is more prevalent in people diagnosed with bipolar disorder than in a matched sample of people diagnosed with schizophrenia and whether clinical variables of bipolar disorder are related to CT.Methods Seventy-one inpatients diagnosed with bipolar disorder were matched to those diagnosed with schizophrenia for age, sex, and duration of illness. Both groups completed the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, the Traumatic
