15A home network message specification for white goods based on power line communication is proposed. It is designed for white goods such as air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines etc. The proposed home network message specification is composed of a virtual device service and a device-specific attribute. For practical implementation, an application software and two types of power line modules are used.
This review aims to provide a technical roadmap and progress update for backplane thin film transistors (TFTs) used in organic light emitting diodes flat panel displays and next-generation flexible displays. In the introduction, we provide a general overview as well as trends in research on backplane TFTs. The main section describes current technical level and future prospects for amorphous metal oxide, semiconducting carbon nanotube, 2D transition metal dichalcogenide, and organic TFTs. The sum
Abstract Engineering the electronic band structures upon doping is crucial to improve the thermoelectric performance of materials. Understanding how dopants influence the electronic states near the Fermi level is thus a prerequisite to precisely tune band structures. Here, we demonstrate that the Sn-s states in SnTe contribute to the density of states at the top of the valence band. This is a consequence of the half-filled p-p σ-bond (metavalent bonding) and its resulting symmetry of the orbital
Abstract Plastic/ductile inorganic van der Waals (vdW) thermoelectric semiconductors offer transformative advantages for high‐performance flexible thermoelectric devices, which can displace the self‐charge system of wearable electronics. However, the chemical origin of their plasticity remains unclear. Here, it is reported that the exceptionally large plastic strain of the bulk SnSe 2 crystal results from its polytype conversion under an external force. The SnSe 2 single crystal consists of a la
Abstract A family of solids including crystalline phase change materials such as GeTe and Sb 2 Te 3 , topological insulators like Bi 2 Se 3, and halide perovskites such as CsPbI 3 possesses an unconventional property portfolio that seems incompatible with ionic, metallic, or covalent bonding. Instead, evidence is found for a bonding mechanism characterized by half‐filled p‐bands and a competition between electron localization and delocalization. Different bonding concepts have recently been sugg
Although Sb2Te3, as a candidate material for next-generation memory devices, has attractive properties such as higher operation speed and lower power consumption than Ge2Sb2Te5, its poor stability prevents its application to commercial memory devices. Transition metal dopants provide enhancements in its phase change characteristics, improving both thermal stability and operation energy. However, the enhancement mechanism remains to be suffic
This paper describes a system to study how small physical perturbations can affect bacterial community behavior in unexpected ways through modulation of diffusion and convective transport of chemical communication molecules and resources. A culture environment that mimics the chemically open characteristic of natural bacterial habitats but with user-defined spatiotemporal control of bacteria microcolonies is realized through use of an aqueous two phase system (ATPS). The ATPS is formulated with
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the high circumcision rate in South Korea and its rapid increase in the short period since its introduction. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: From January to December 2000, 5434 South Korean males (or their parents) aged 0-92 years were interviewed in detail about their circumcision status, their age at circumcision, and the possible effect of circumcision on their sexuality. In addition, 267 practising medical doctors were surveyed about their basic understanding of circumcision
Reversible conversion over multimillion times in bond types between metavalent and covalent bonds becomes one of the most promising bases for universal memory. As the conversions have been found in metastable states, an extended category of crystal structures from stable states via redistribution of vacancies, research on kinetic behavior of the vacancies is highly in demand. However, it remains lacking due to difficulties with experimental analysis. Herein, the direct observation of the evoluti
