데이비드 조지프 처치일 교수의 연구실은 주로 생체 분자, 특히 생체티올과 구리 이온과 같은 생리적 관련 금속 이온을 정밀하게 탐지할 수 있는 새로운 형광 프로브의 설계 및 합성을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히, 선택성과 민감도를 동시에 확보한 이중 발광 방식의 프로브 기술과, 생체 환경에서 안정적으로 작동하는 금속-리간드 복합체 개발에 초점을 맞추고 있으며, 이는 질병 조기 진단 및 생체 내 분자 모니터링에 응용될 잠재력을 지닙니다. 또한, 금속 착물의 반응성과 구조적 특성 간의 상관관계를 규명하기 위한 고해상도 구조 분석 및 동역학 연구도 병행하고 있습니다.

Annulated BODIPY chalcogenide (Se, Te) systems were synthesized from their respective bis(o-formylphenyl)dichalcogenide intermediates. The annulated BODIPY selenide product was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. The red-shifted telluride version was found to be sensitive and selective for hypochlorite detection, reversible upon treatment with biothiols.

Access to the [Me 2 Si] ansa -bridged permethylmolybdenocene system is provided by the synthesis of [Me 2 Si(C 5 Me 4 ) 2 ]MoCl 2 from the reaction of MoCl 5 with a mixture of [Me 2 Si(C 5 Me 4 ) 2 ]Li 2 and NaBH 4, followed by treatment with CHCl 3 . Comparison with the chemistry of the non- ansa Cp* 2 MoX 2 system indicates that incorporation of the [Me 2 Si] ansa bridge promotes intermolecular C−H and C−C bond activation reactions.

Fluorescent dinuclear chiral zinc complexes were synthesized in a "one-pot" method in which the lysine-based Schiff base ligand was generated in situ. This complex acts as a highly sensitive and selective fluorescent ON-OFF probe for Cu(2+) in water at physiological pH. A diselenide-based BODIPY probe was prepared; it was found to be sensitive and selective for superoxide in giving [-Se(O)Se(O)-] oxidation. Detection of nerve agent-related molecules based on BODIPY-salicylaldehyde oxime conjugation was studied. Fluorescence intensity of the B-SAL-OXIME species increases in the presence of DECP, whereas it decreases in the presence of DCP and DEMP (limit of detection = 997 nM). Benzonitrile formation in the novel fluorescent B-SAL-OXIME system was elucidated using model substrates.
