SJR Q1Journal of Proteome ResearchOA

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of three major infectious diseases, and the control of TB is becoming more difficult because of the emergence of multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant strains. In this study, we explored the (1)H NMR-based metabolomics of TB using an aerobic TB infection model. Global profiling was applied to characterize the responses of C57Bl/6 mice to an aerobic infection with virulent Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). The metabolic changes in organs (i.e., the lung, the

Do Hyun Ryu, E. J. Corey
SJR Q1Journal of the American Chemical Society

The strong acid triflimide ((CF3SO2)2NH) protonates chiral oxazaborolidines to form superactive, stable, chiral Lewis acids which are highly effective catalysts for a wide variety of enantioselective Diels-Alder reactions, documented herein by more than 20 examples.

Broad-Spectrum Enantioselective Diels−Alder Catalysis by Chiral, Cationic Oxazaborolidines
Do Hyun Ryu, Thomas Lee, E. J. Corey
SJR Q1Journal of the American Chemical Society

The cationic chiral Lewis acids 1 and 2, generated by triflic acid protonation of the corresponding neutral oxazaborolidines, serve as excellent catalysts for Diels-Alder addition of cyclopentadiene to a wide variety of dienophiles. Adducts have been obtained in excellent yield and enantioselectivity from alpha,beta-unsaturated esters, lactones, and cyclic ketones. The absolute facial selectivity for each of these substrates follows a common pattern which differs from that observed with alpha,be

Enantioselective Cyanosilylation of Ketones Catalyzed by a Chiral Oxazaborolidinium Ion
Do Hyun Ryu, E. J. Corey
SJR Q1Journal of the American Chemical Society

The chiral oxazaborolidinium salt 1 (X = TfO) is an excellent catalyst for the cyanosilylation of methyl ketones promoted by trimethylsilyl cyanide and diphenylmethyl phosphine oxide as co-reactants (to generate Ph(2)MePOTMS(N=C:) as a reactive intermediate). The face selectivity of this reaction parallels that previously observed for the corresponding reaction of aldehydes. A unifying and rational mechanistic explanation is provided for these enantioselective reactions. Evidence is presented to

Discrimination of the Geographical Origin of Beef by 1H NMR-Based Metabolomics
Youngae Jung, Jueun Lee, Joseph Sang‐Il Kwon, Kwang‐Sik Lee, Do Hyun Ryu, Geum‐Sook Hwang
SJR Q1Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry

The geographical origin of beef is of increasing interest to consumers and producers due to "mad cow" disease and the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). In this study, (1)H NMR spectroscopy coupled with multivariate statistical analyses was used to differentiate the geographical origin of beef samples. Principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal projection to latent structure-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) showed significant separation between extracts of beef originating f

Highly Enantioselective Cyanosilylation of Aldehydes Catalyzed by a Chiral Oxazaborolidinium Ion
Do Hyun Ryu, E. J. Corey
SJR Q1Journal of the American Chemical Society

The chiral oxazaborolidinium salts 1 and 2 are excellent catalysts for the enantioselective cyanosilylation of a wide variety of aldehydes (see Table 1) using trimethylsilyl (TMS) cyanide and triphenylphosphine oxide as the source of a new reactive cyanide donor. This donor appears to be the isocyanophosphorane Ph3P(OTMS)(N=C:) (4). The novel process described herein has several advantages: predictability of absolute configuration of cyanohydrin products from a mechanistic model (3), high yields

Enantioselective and Structure-Selective Diels−Alder Reactions of Unsymmetrical Quinones Catalyzed by a Chiral Oxazaborolidinium Cation. Predictive Selection Rules
Do Hyun Ryu, Gang Zhou, E. J. Corey
SJR Q1Journal of the American Chemical Society

The chiral oxazaborolidinium cation 1 promotes Diels-Alder reactions between 2-triisopropylsilyloxy-1,3-butadiene and a number of unsymmetrical 1,4-benzoquinones in a highly enantioselective and structurally selective manner. The basis for the enantioselectivity is explained rationally in terms of a preferred type of transition-state assembly. Selection rules have been developed that allow the prediction of the principal reaction product of Diels-Alder reaction between unsymmetrical diene and qu

Lizhu Gao, Geum‐Sook Hwang, Do Hyun Ryu
SJR Q1Journal of the American Chemical Society

A catalytic synthetic route to highly functionalized chiral cyclopropane derivatives was developed by Michael-initiated cyclopropanation of α-substituted acroleins with aryl- and alkyl diazoacetates. In the presence of chiral (S)-oxazaborolidinium cation 1b as a catalyst, the reaction proceeded in high yield (up to 93%) with high to excellent diastereoselectivity (up to 98% de) and enantioselectivity (up to 95% ee).

SJR Q1Angewandte Chemie International Edition

Breaking kamp: A catalytic route toward chiral α-alkyl-β-ketoesters using the title reaction of α-alkyl diazoester with aldehydes has been developed (see scheme). The reaction proceeds with high to excellent enantioselectivities and this methodology was applied to a concise two-step synthesis of the natural pheromone sitophilate. The Roskamp reaction,1 a Lewis acid catalyzed reaction of alkyl diazoesters with aldehydes, is a powerful and useful synthetic method to construct β-keto carbonyl compo

This paper describes a catalytic enantioselective route to synthesize functionalized all-carbon quaternary acyclic systems via a boron Lewis acid-promoted formal C-C insertion of diazoesters into aryl-CHO bonds. In the presence of chiral (S)-oxazaborolidinium cation 1d as a catalyst, the reaction proceeded in good yield (up to 83%) with good regioselectivity (up to 88:12) and excellent enantioselectivity (up to 99% ee).
