15Between 2013 and 2015, the resistance rates of E. coli to third- and fourth-generation cephalosporins increased continuously, while carbapenem-susceptibility gradually decreased, particularly in K. pneumoniae. The prevalence of carbapenem-resistant P. aeruginosa and A. baumannii increased significantly; therefore, few treatment options remain for these resistant strains.
Despite the reported virulence of hypermucoviscous KP strains, they were associated with good prognoses in KP BSI patients. Importantly, carriage of the pks gene cluster, which is responsible for the synthesis of colibactin, was a relevant marker of early mortality.
To monitor national antimicrobial resistance (AMR), the Korea Global AMR Surveillance System (Kor-GLASS) was established. This study analyzed bloodstream infection (BSI) cases from Kor-GLASS phase I from January 2017 to December 2019. Nine non-duplicated Kor-GLASS target pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus , Enterococcus faecalis , Enterococcus faecium , Streptococcus pneumoniae , Escherichia coli , Klebsiella pneumoniae , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , Acinetobacter spp., and Salmonella spp.,
Background: National surveillance of antimicrobial resistance becomes more important for the control of antimicrobial resistance and determination of treatment guidelines. We analyzed Korean Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System (KARMS) data collected from 2013 to 2015. Methods: Of the KARMS participants, 16 secondary or tertiary hospitals consecutively reported antimicrobial resistance rates from 2013 to 2015. Data from duplicate isolates and institutions with fewer than 20 isolates were e
Carbapenemase-producing organisms (CPO) are rapidly disseminating worldwide, and their presence in tertiary care hospitals poses a significant threat to the management of nosocomial infections. There is a need to control CPO, especially in intensive care unit (ICU) patients, because these organisms are resistant to most β-lactam antibiotics and are easily transmitted. At present, the identification of CPO is time-consuming; hence, this study focused on the use of the Xpert CARBA-R assay (Cepheid
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical impacts of ampicillin-susceptible but penicillin-resistant (ASPR) phenotypes of Enterococcus faecalis on clinical outcomes in patients with bloodstream infection (BSI). A total of 295 patients with an E. faecalis BSI from six sentinel hospitals during a 2-year period (from May 2016 to April 2018) were enrolled in this study.
The objectives of this study were to evaluate the performance of the BD Phoenix™ M50 system with two antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) panels against clinical isolates in South Korea and the accuracy of determining carbapenem and colistin susceptibility compared with reference methods. A total of 825 nonduplicated clinical isolates were included in this study. Bacterial identification was performed using Bruker Biotyper and 16S rDNA sequencing. Antimicrobial susceptibilities were tested
The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of the RESIST-5 O.K.N.V.I. assay for identifying these five common domestic carbapenemases among a large number of clinical isolates in South Korea. A total of 268 non-duplicated clinical isolates of gram-negative bacilli were included in this study as follows: 258 carbapenemase-producing (CP) strains (OXA-48-like, KPC, NDM, VIM, IMP, GES, OXA-23 and two or more carbapenemase producers) and 10 non-CP carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterale
BACKGROUND: Traditional culture methods are time-consuming, making it difficult to utilize the results in the early stage of urinary tract infection (UTI) management, and automated urinalyses alone show insufficient performance for diagnosing UTIs. Several models have been proposed to predict urine culture positivity based on urinalysis. However, most of them have not been externally validated or consisted solely of urinalysis data obtained using one specific commercial analyzer. METHODS: A tota
This study was performed to evaluate the clinical impacts of putative risk factors in patients with Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infections (BSIs) through a prospective, multicenter, observational study. All 567 patients with S. aureus BSIs that occurred during a 1-year period in six general hospitals were included in this study. Host- and pathogen-related variables were investigated to determine risk factors for the early mortality of patients with S. aureus BSIs.
Graves' disease (GD) is caused by autoantibodies against the thyrotropin receptor (TRAb), and among the three types of TRAbs, only the stimulating type (TSI) is known to be associated with GD. In this study, we evaluated the analytical performance of a new fully automated chemiluminescent TSI immunoassay, namely, the Immulite TSI assay, and compared the diagnostic efficacy of the assay with the Elecsys Anti-TSH receptor (TSHR) assay. Precision was evaluated using two levels of quality control re
Background: The dissemination of multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogen is of major public health concern as it leads to increased mortality rate, length of hospital stays, and medical expenses.Current Concepts: Korean Government enacted an Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act in 2009, and 6 MDR bacteria including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant S. aureus (VRSA), vancomycin-resistant enterococci, multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, multidrug-resista

Compared with the CSP, the SPO was associated with an improved PRE and a shorter procedure time to exchange one plasma volume. Our results in KT patients show that the SPO is superior to the CSP in TPE procedures.
