15Flavonoids, a group of naturally occurring antioxidants and metal chelators, can be used as tyrosinase inhibitors due to their formation of copper-flavonoid complexes. Thus, to investigate the underlying inhibition mechanism, a large group of flavonoids from several major flavones and flavonols were tested using fluorescence quenching spectroscopy. In addition, large differences in the tyrosinase inhibitory activities and chelating capacities according to the location of the hydroxyl group(s) in
Many benefits provided by the gut microbiota to the host rely on its intricate interactions with host cells. Perturbations of the gut microbiota, termed gut dysbiosis, affect the interplay between the gut microbiota and host cells, resulting in dysregulation of inflammation that contributes to the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, allergic asthma and rheumatoid arthritis. In this review, we provide an overview of how gut bact
The Fourth Industrial Revolution incorporates the digital revolution into the physical world, creating a new direction in a number of fields, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, nanotechnology, biotechnology, robotics, 3D printing, autonomous vehicles, and the Internet of Things. The artificial intelligence field has encountered a turning point mainly due to advancements in machine learning, which allows machines to learn, improve, and perform a specific task through data witho

UNLABELLED: ABSTRECT: BACKGROUND: To understand whether TLR-4-linked NF-kB activation negatively correlates with lipid peroxidation in colitic animal models, we caused colitis by the treatment with dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) or 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS) to C3H/HeJ (TLR-4-defective) and C3H/HeN (wild type) mice, investigated inflammatory markers, lipid peroxidation, proinflammatory cytokines and TLR-4-linked NF-kappaB activation, in colon and intestinal bacterial composition in
Vertebral compression fracture is a deformity of vertebral bodies found on lateral spine images. To diagnose vertebral compression fracture, accurate measurement of vertebral compression ratio is required. Therefore, rapid and accurate segmentation of vertebra is important for measuring the vertebral compression ratio. In this study, we used 339 data of lateral thoracic and lumbar vertebra images for training and testing a deep learning model for segmentation. The result of segmentation by the m
BACKGROUND: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the lung and its incidence has been increasing around the world. We previously reported that oral administration of a water-soluble extract prepared from Actinidia arguta, code-named PG102, could modulate the level of Th1 and Th2 cytokines and suppress the production of immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the ovalbumin (OVA)-immunized murine model as well as in the in vitro cell culture system, and furthermore could significantly improve dermatitis c
UNLABELLED: Varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection is one of the frequent opportunistic infections after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation, with a high incidence of 30-50%. However, no data have been reported on VZV infection after allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT). PATIENTS AND METHODS: We report a retrospective analysis of VZV infection in 192 allogeneic PBSCT recipients. Twenty-seven patients (14%) received long-term prophylaxis of low-dose acyclovir (200 mg t
Torsional phacoemulsification showed superior efficiency for moderate cataracts, as compared with longitudinal phacoemulsification, in the early postoperative stage.
