신동현 교수의 연구실은 곤충 발달에서 세포 결정성과 축 방향 형성의 분자 메커니즘을 규명하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 특히 Dorsal, Zelda, Single-minded 등의 전사인자와 그가 조절하는 염색체 조절 요소(엔하נס터)의 이중 기능성과 시계열적 활성화 메커니즘을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 이들의 연구는 발달 유전자의 정밀한 시공간적 발현 조절 원리를 밝히는 데 기여하고 있습니다.

The sog, a fly homologue of the vertebrate chordin, is expressed in the presumptive neurogenic ectoderm and also the ventral midline during Drosophila embryogenesis.
