Background: This study describes the global epidemiology and trends associated with neck pain. Global Burden of Disease data collected between 1990 and 2019 were used to determine the global burden of neck pain in the general populations of 204 countries. Methods: Global, regional, and national burdens of neck pain determined by prevalence, incidence, and years lived with a disability (YLD) from 1990 to 2019 were comprehensively analyzed according to age, gender, and socio-demographic index usin

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine the association between 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and neuroimaging correlates of cerebral small vessel disease. METHODS: We identified 759 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack. Lacunes, white matter hyperintensity, and cerebral microbleed (CMB) were assessed using MR images. Deep CMB was defined as the presence of CMB in basal ganglia, thalamus, or brain stem. The association between 25(OH)

SJR Q3European Neurology

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The aim of the present study was to determine the association between arterial calcification and cerebral microbleeds (CMB) relative to their distribution. METHODS: We identified 834 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack who underwent CT angiography and susceptibility-weighted imaging. RESULTS: Internal carotid artery (ICA) calcification and CMB were found in 660 patients (79.1%) and 335 patients (40.2%), respectively. ICA calcification was

SJR Q2Frontiers in Human NeuroscienceOA

Despite the critical impact of parental dialog on children who remain physically and psychologically dependent, most studies have focused on brain alterations in people exposed to moderate-to-high levels of emotional maltreatment with/without psychopathology. We measured metabolites in the pregenual anterior cingulate cortex (pgACC) acquired with single-voxel proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy and anatomical connectivity assessed with probabilistic tractography in 46 healthy young adults who

Huge Anterior Skull Base Defect Reconstruction on Communicating Between Cranium and Nasal Cavity: Combination Flap of Galeal Flap and Reverse Temporalis Flap
Dong Woo Shin, Chae Eun Yang, Yong Oock Kim, Jong Won Hong, Won Jai Lee, Dae Hyun Lew, Jong Hee Chang, Chang‐Hoon Kim
SJR Q2Journal of Craniofacial SurgeryOA

INTRODUCTION: Traditionally, galeal flap or cranialization was often used to reconstruct the skull base defect caused by trauma or tumor removal. However, in the case of huge skull base defect, galeal flap is not enough to block the communication between nasal cavity and intracranial space. In this study, authors suggest combination flap of galea and reverse temporalis muscle as a method for reconstruction of huge skull base defect. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From 2016 to 2019, retrospective review

SJR Q2BMC NeurologyOA

BACKGROUND: Hyponatremia has been reported from patients with severe neurological disease, and the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone and cerebral salt wasting syndrome are the two main etiologies of hyponatremia after brain injury. Here we describe a patient with a lateral medullary infarction who experienced symptomatic hyponatremia with finding suggestive of syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone followed by cerebral salt wasting syndrome. Clinical Implications of Atrial Fibrillation Detection Using Wearable Devices in Patients With Cryptogenic Stroke (CANDLE-AF) Trial: Design and Rationale

Background: Although many electrocardiography wearable devices have been released recently for the detection of atrial fibrillation (AF), there are few studies reporting prospective data for wearable devices compared to the strategy of the existing guidelines in the detection of atrial fibrillation (AF) after cryptogenic stroke. A tiny single-patch monitor is more convenient than a conventional Holter monitor recording device and, therefore, longer duration of monitoring may be acceptable. Metho

The Associations of Emotion Coping Appraisal With Both the Cue–Outcome Contingency and Perceived Verbal Abuse Exposure
Dong Woo Shin, Taekeun Yoon, Bumseok Jeong
SJR Q1Frontiers in PsychiatryOA

Previous studies have reported an association between verbal abuse in early childhood and structural and functional alterations in the young adult brain, supporting the existence of critical periods in human brain development. In addition, exposure to verbal abuse in early childhood is strongly correlated with lifetime psychiatric illness. Resilience is defined as the ability to avoid the negative psychological, biological, and social consequences of stress that impair psychological and physical

This study aimed to present the prognosis after minor acute ischemic stroke (AIS) or transient ischemic attack (TIA), using a definition of subsequent stroke in accordance with recent clinical trials. In total, 9,506 patients with minor AIS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale ≤ 5) or high-risk TIA (acute lesions or ≥ 50% cerebral artery steno-occlusion) admitted between November 2010 and October 2013 were included. The primary outcome was the composite of stroke (progression of initial e

Background: Reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS) is an uncommon and often underrecognized neurovascular disorder. We aimed to investigate the clinical presentations associated with extracerebral vasoconstriction in patients diagnosed with RCVS. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we analyzed data from a single-center cohort of patients with RCVS in Korea. Extracerebral vasoconstriction in individuals diagnosed with RCVS was defined by the following criteria: (1) the presence
