SJR Q1Nature CommunicationsOA

The ability to print and pattern all the components that make up a tissue (cells and matrix materials) in three dimensions to generate structures similar to tissues is an exciting prospect of bioprinting. However, the majority of the matrix materials used so far for bioprinting cannot represent the complexity of natural extracellular matrix (ECM) and thus are unable to reconstitute the intrinsic cellular morphologies and functions. Here, we develop a method for the bioprinting of cell-laden cons

SJR Q2Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative MedicineOA

Regenerative medicine is targeted to improve, restore or replace damaged tissues or organs using a combination of cells, materials and growth factors. Both tissue engineering and developmental biology currently deal with the process of tissue self-assembly and extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition. In this investigation, additive manufacturing (AM) with a multihead deposition system (MHDS) was used to fabricate three-dimensional (3D) cell-printed scaffolds using layer-by-layer (LBL) deposition o

SJR Q1Chemical Reviews

Biomaterials-based biofabrication methods have gained much attention in recent years. Among them, 3D cell printing is a pioneering technology to facilitate the recapitulation of unique features of complex human tissues and organs with high process flexibility and versatility. Bioinks, combinations of printable hydrogel and cells, can be utilized to create 3D cell-printed constructs. The bioactive cues of bioinks directly trigger cells to induce tissue morphogenesis. Among the various printable h

3D printing of composite tissue with complex shape applied to ear regeneration

SJR Q1Biofabrication

In the ear reconstruction field, tissue engineering enabling the regeneration of the ear's own tissue has been considered to be a promising technology. However, the ear is known to be difficult to regenerate using traditional methods due to its complex shape and composition. In this study, we used three-dimensional (3D) printing technology including a sacrificial layer process to regenerate both the auricular cartilage and fat tissue. The main part was printed with poly-caprolactone (PCL) and ce

Bioprinting of a mechanically enhanced three-dimensional dual cell-laden construct for osteochondral tissue engineering using a multi-head tissue/organ building system
Jin‐Hyung Shim, Jung‐Seob Lee, Jong Young Kim, Dong‐Woo Cho
SJR Q2Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering

The aim of this study was to build a mechanically enhanced three-dimensional (3D) bioprinted construct containing two different cell types for osteochondral tissue regeneration. Recently, the production of 3D cell-laden structures using various scaffold-free cell printing technologies has opened up new possibilities. However, ideal 3D complex tissues or organs have not yet been printed because gel-state hydrogels have been used as the principal material and are unable to maintain the desired 3D

One-step fabrication of an organ-on-a-chip with spatial heterogeneity using a 3D bioprinting technology
Hyungseok Lee, Dong‐Woo Cho
SJR Q1Lab on a ChipOA

Although various types of organs-on-chips have been introduced recently as tools for drug discovery, the current studies are limited in terms of fabrication methods. The fabrication methods currently available not only need a secondary cell-seeding process and result in severe protein absorption due to the material used, but also have difficulties in providing various cell types and extracellular matrix (ECM) environments for spatial heterogeneity in the organs-on-chips. Therefore, in this resea

Tissue Engineered Bio‐Blood‐Vessels Constructed Using a Tissue‐Specific Bioink and 3D Coaxial Cell Printing Technique: A Novel Therapy for Ischemic Disease
Ge Gao, Jun Hee Lee, Jinah Jang, Dong‐Han Lee, Jeong‐Sik Kong, Byoung Soo Kim, Yeong‐Jin Choi, Woong Bi Jang, Young Joon Hong, Sang‐Mo Kwon, Dong‐Woo Cho
SJR Q1Advanced Functional MaterialsOA

Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are a promising cell source for the treatment of several ischemic diseases for their potentials in neovascularization. However, the application of EPCs in cell‐based therapy has shown low therapeutic efficacy due to hostile tissue conditions after ischemia. In this study, a bio‐blood‐vessel (BBV) is developed, which is produced using a novel hybrid bioink (a mixture of vascular‐tissue‐derived decellularized extracellular matrix (VdECM) and alginate) and a vers

Development of Liver Decellularized Extracellular Matrix Bioink for Three-Dimensional Cell Printing-Based Liver Tissue Engineering
Hyungseok Lee, Wonil Han, Hyeonji Kim, Dongheon Ha, Jinah Jang, Byoung Soo Kim, Dong‐Woo Cho
SJR Q1Biomacromolecules

The liver is an important organ and plays major roles in the human body. Because of the lack of liver donors after liver failure and drug-induced liver injury, much research has focused on developing liver alternatives and liver in vitro models for transplantation and drug screening. Although numerous studies have been conducted, these systems cannot faithfully mimic the complexity of the liver. Recently, three-dimensional (3D) cell printing technology has emerged as one of a number of innovativ
