SJR Q1Arthroscopy The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related SurgeryOA

PURPOSE: To compare the results of bone marrow stimulation (BMS) versus autologous osteochondral transfer (AOT) as primary surgical option for large cystic osteochondral lesion of talus (OLT) and to further distinguish factors associated with clinical failures and overall survival. METHODS: ) who underwent either primary BMS or AOT between January 2001 and January 2016 with a minimum follow-up of 36 months. Lesion surface area and volume were measured on magnetic resonance imaging. Clinical outc

SJR Q2BMC Musculoskeletal DisordersOA

BACKGROUND: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been known to accelerate bone healing. Many cells and molecules have been investigated but the exact mechanism is still unknown. The neuroinflammatory state of TBI has been reported recently. We aimed to investigate the effect of TBI on fracture healing in patients with tibia fractures and assess whether the factors associated with hematoma formation changed more significantly in the laboratory tests in the fractures accompanied with TBI. METHODS: We

Diagnosis and Operation Results for Chronic Lateral Ankle Instability with Subtle Cavovarus Deformity and a Peek-A-Boo Heel Sign

SJR Q2Yonsei Medical JournalOA

Cavovarus deformity is considered an anatomical risk factor for chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI). However, subtle deformity can be difficult to detect, and its correction is controversial. The current study aimed to evaluate clinical and radiographic outcomes of a modified Broström procedure (MBP) with additional procedures for CLAI with subtle cavovarus deformity and a positive peek-a-boo heel sign. We reviewed the records of 15 patients who underwent MBP with additional procedures for

Superior pedal function recovery of newly designed three spike insole over total contact insole in refractory plantar fasciitis: A randomized, double-blinded, non-inferiority study

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

INTRODUCTION: Plantar fasciitis is one of the common foot complaints that is chronic and can induce dysfunction. Total contact insole (TCI) is simple but effective in treating plantar fasciitis. Despite its effect, the cost and long duration for production have been the major flaws. Therefore, we developed a newly designed three-spike insole (TSI) that can be commercially productive and compared its clinical outcomes to TCI. METHODS: Patients with plantar fasciitis refractory to conservative tre

Particulated autologous cartilage transplantation for the treatment of osteochondral lesion of the talus: can the lesion cartilage be recycled?

SJR Q1Bone & Joint OpenOA

Aims: Osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLT) are a common cause of disability and chronic ankle pain. Many operative treatment strategies have been introduced; however, they have their own disadvantages. Recently lesion repair using autologous cartilage chip has emerged therefore we investigated the efficacy of particulated autologous cartilage transplantation (PACT) in OLT. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 32 consecutive symptomatic patients with OLT who underwent PACT with minimum one-ye

Detection of the Tram Track Lesion in the Ankle Joint: Comparing 3.0‐Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Arthroscopy
Dong Woo Shim, Sung Jun Kim, Yeokgu Hwang, Yunjae Lee, Jin Woo Lee, Seung Hwan Han
SJR Q1Arthroscopy The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related SurgeryOA

PURPOSE: To show the effectiveness of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the detection of tram track lesions in the ankle compared with ankle arthroscopy. METHODS: We retrospectively assessed all patients who underwent arthroscopic ankle surgery between January 2013 and July 2015. Patients with anterior impingement spurs were included, but those with an osteochondral lesion or arthritis were excluded. Anterior ankle bony spurs on preoperative weight-bearing radiographs were scored using an imp

Objective Treatment strategies for osteochondral defects, for which particulated autologous cartilage transplantation (PACT) is an emerging treatment strategy, aim to restore the structure and function of the hyaline cartilage. Herein, we compared the efficacy of PACT with control or human transforming growth factor-β (rhTGF-β), and clarified the necessity of bone graft (BG) with PACT to treat shallow osteochondral defects in a porcine model. Efficacy of computed tomography in prediction of operability of L5/S1 foraminal stenosis using region of interest

SJR Q3MedicineOA

Symptoms of intervertebral foraminal stenosis are caused by compression of nerve root exiting the intervertebral foramen. Many attempts to measure the size of the neuromuscular exit have been made; however, only a few studies to compare the area differences between foramens by computed tomography (CT) were done. In this retrospective comparative study, we used the region of interest (ROI) in CT to measure and compare the area of intervertebral foramen between the healthy control group and the pa

SJR Q1Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and ResearchOA

PURPOSE: To compare the analgesic efficacy, adverse effects, and long-term functional outcomes of perioperative naproxen alone versus naproxen with pregabalin for treating pain in ankle fractures. METHODS: This study included 70 patients who underwent operative fixation of rotatory ankle fractures. Group A received naproxen 500 mg only, and Group B received naproxen 500 mg with pregabalin 75 mg 2-hour before surgery and 12 hourly for 14 days thereafter. Research Type: Level 3 - Retrospective cohort study, Case-control study, Meta-analysis of Level 3 studies Introduction/Purpose: As with other artificial joint surgeries, osteolysis in ankle artificial joint is a major cause of implant loosening. It is known that polyethylene wear particles are the main cause, but it is also caused by implant surface coating particles such as metal and hydroxyapatite (HA) particles. In particular, in the case of HA, early pattern of osteolysis is known to progres
