Precision and Future MedicineOA

Health screening is an important component of health promotion programs, and countries have promoted general health screening targeting the prevention and early management of common chronic diseases. In Korea, a General Health Screening Program (GHSP) began with workers in the 1950s and continuously expanded its target population, and currently includes the adult population. The main target diseases are cerebroand cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia,

BACKGROUND: Despite the important role that family caregivers play in providing emotional and practical support to cancer patients, relatively little is known about the family caregiver's role in treatment decision-making (TDM). We sought to investigate patients' and family caregivers' preferences for and experiences of family involvement in TDM and factors associated with preference concordance. METHOD: A national survey was performed with 990 patient-caregiver dyads (participation rate:76.2%).

Lower indices of continuity of care in patients with newly diagnosed hypertension, diabetes, and hypercholesterolemia were associated with higher all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, cardiovascular events, and health care costs. Health care systems should be designed to support long-term trusting relationships between patients and physicians.

SJR Q1European Journal of Neurology

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The aim was to investigate whether female reproductive factors are associated with dementia. METHODS: In all, 4 696 633 post-menopausal women without dementia were identified using the Korean National Health Insurance System database. Data on reproductive factors were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Dementia was determined using dementia diagnosis codes and anti-dementia drug prescription. Cox proportional hazards regression was conducted to assess the

UNLABELLED: Screening for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is clinically important given that its early detection has remarkable survival benefits. We investigated the possible role of FIB-4, a recently developed noninvasive marker for liver fibrosis based on routine laboratory tests, as a clinical indicator for predicting future HCC among hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) carriers. Our retrospective cohort study involved 986 Korean HBsAg carriers 40 years of age or older who visited Seoul Natio

SJR Q1Movement Disorders

BACKGROUND: There are conflicting findings in the literature regarding the association of body mass index and incidence of PD. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the association of body mass index with the risk of PD incidence while considering diabetes mellitus as a major confounding factor. METHODS: We examined 6,800,601 individuals (aged ≥40 years) who were free of PD using the database of the Korean National Health Insurance Service. Cox proportional hazard regression was used to as

Importance: The impact of serial changes in alcohol consumption on dementia risk has rarely been investigated to date. Objective: To investigate the association of comprehensive patterns of changes in alcohol consumption with the incidence of all-cause dementia, Alzheimer disease (AD), and vascular dementia (VaD). Design, Setting, and Participants: This is a retrospective cohort study. Data were obtained from the Korean National Health Insurance Service database. Adults aged 40 years and older u

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate whether anemia is associated with dementia incidence in the elderly. METHODS: Using the Korean National Health Insurance Service-National Health Screening Cohort (NHIS-HEALS) database, we identified 66-year-old subjects (n = 37,900) who were free of dementia and stroke. Anemia (hemoglobin < 12 g/dl for women and < 13 g/dl for men) and the severity of anemia (mild, moderate, or severe) were defined using World Health Organization criteria. The

SJR Q1European Heart Journal

AIMS: The aim of this study was to assess the association of smoking cessation and reduction with risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 897 975 current smokers aged ≥40 years who had undergone two consecutive national health examinations (in 2009 and 2011) were included. Participants were classified as quitters (20.6%), reducers I (≥50% reduction, 7.3%), reducers II (20-50% reduction, 11.6%), sustainers (45.7%), and increasers (≥20% increase, 14.5%). During 5 575

BACKGROUND: We examined factors associated with positive consequences for family members who served as caregivers of terminal cancer patients. METHODS: We conducted a nationwide cross-sectional survey of 501 bereaved family members who served as caregivers for terminal cancer patients. The main outcomes were measured by the previously developed Caregiving Consequences Inventory, which assesses perceived rewards and burdens of caregiving. RESULTS: Bereaved family caregivers reported high levels o
