15Fear of falling has been reported in a high percentage of community-dwelling elderly who both do and don't have a history of falling. The aims of this review are to: (a) elucidate the definition of fear of falling; (b) clarify measurements of fear of falling based on its definition; and (c) describe the risk factors for fear of falling. Despite the importance of the percentage and the consequences of fear of falling, its definition is still vague and warrants clarification. Based on a literature
This study examines the effectiveness of interventions for decreasing the fear of falling by synthesizing the results of individual studies of fear of falling prevention. The mean weighted effect sizes (MWES) of six studies are computed. The overall MWES is .21 (N = 957; 95% CI .068-.362). Results indicate that interventions are effective in reducing the fear of falling or increasing fall efficacy. The MWES is .249, .024, and .418 for the combined intervention, exercise intervention only, and hi
AIM: To identify the relationships between physical activity, quality of life and successful ageing among community-dwelling older adults in South Korea. BACKGROUND: With increasing numbers of financially stable and active older adults, it has become imperative to understand successful ageing to promote well-being in this population. BACKGROUND: Given the wide range of metaverse technologies, there is a need to synthesize evidence of metaverse pedagogy used effectively for nursing education. PURPOSE: This umbrella review synthesized systematic reviews on the use of metaverse in nursing education. METHODS: A search was performed in MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Education Full Text. This umbrella review was conducted with reference to the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Reviewer's Manual and reported using Preferr
BACKGROUND: Falls are among the most frequent critical health problems for older adults over 65 years of age and often result in consequential injuries. AIM: This study developed a guideline covering risk factors and interventions for falls in order to prevent them from occurring in long-term care facilities. METHODS: This study was grounded in the methodological approach of the Scottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network for establishing evidence-based guidelines: (1) establishment of the target
The COVID-19 outbreak has profoundly changed daily life and the ways in which students learn and interact. This study explores the nature and content of tweets posted by students enrolled in nursing programs (hereafter nursing students) in the United Kingdom, the United States, and South Korea during the COVID-19 pandemic between March 4 and April 7, 2020. A total of 8856 tweets from the Twitter accounts of 95 self-identified nursing students were included in our qualitative analysis. The findin
BACKGROUND: The risk factors for falls that have been reported in Caucasian older adults may not be the same for Korean older adults. OBJECTIVE: To examine the prevalence, characteristics and correlates of falls among community-dwelling older adults in Korea. METHODS: A stratified random sampling method was conducted to recruit participants, and 335 were eligible to participate from September 2006 to March 2007. Socio-demographic data, history of disease and medications, activities of daily livi
This paper reports a scoping review of the literature on eating difficulties among older adults with dementia in long-term care facilities to identify key concepts, methods of measuring outcomes, interventions, and related factors. A scoping review was performed using the bibliographic databases PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Cochrane Library. A combination of keywords and subject headings related to eating or feeding difficulties was used. Inclusion criteria were limited to materials published i
AIM: The aim of this study was to identify the effects of daily stress and resilience on successful ageing among community-dwelling older adults. BACKGROUND: Ageing can be a positive experience if there is good adaptation to ageing processes. Positive ageing needs to be a basis of nursing care, health promotion and education within community settings. METHODS: Data were collected in March and April of 2014 from 262 older adults living in Seoul and Jeju, South Korea. We used a four-part survey co
Background Given the limitations imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, a better understanding of how nursing programs around the globe have implemented distance education methods and related initiatives to provide international collaborative learning opportunities as well as complementary aspects of practical education would be constructive for nursing students. It is expected that international collaboratives through web-based communication will continue to be increasingly utilized after the pandem
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between a experience of falling, fear of falling, depression, and perceived health status in urban areas. Methods: After obtaining Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval, a one-time, face-to-face, and private interview was conducted with each participant who was eligible and agreed to participate in this study from May 2007 to August 2007 by trained graduate-level nursing students. The questionnaires consisted of Fall Eff
The novel coronavirus pandemic has dramatically affected how nursing students are educated. Distance learning has become the norm, and an evaluation of learning achievement is needed. This is a mixed-method study of teaching presence, self-regulated learning, and learning satisfaction in distance learning to evaluate the learning achievement of students in a nursing education program. Ninety-four students for quantitative and seven students for qualitative research were sampled. All the sampled
