SJR Q1Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A

The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of an artificial esophagus using a three-layered poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)-silk fibroin (SF) scaffold in a rat model. The artificial esophagus was a three-layered, hybrid-type prosthesis composed of an outer and inner layer of PCL with a middle layer of SF. After depositing the inner layer of the PCL scaffold by electrospinning, the lyophilized middle SF layer was created. The outer layer of PCL was produced following the same procedure

Abstract Three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting of self-supporting stable tissue and organ structure is critically important in extrusion-based bioprinting system, especially for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. However, the development of self-standing bioinks with desired crosslinking density, biocompatibility, tunable mechanical strength and other properties like self-healing, in situ gelation, drug or protein incorporation is still a challenge. In this study, we report

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence, risk factors, and prognostic significance of level VI lymph node metastases from hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). METHODS: A retrospective review of 68 previously untreated patients with hypopharyngeal SCC who underwent level VI node dissection was performed. RESULTS: Level VI lymph node metastases occurred in 27.9% of patients. The occult metastasis rate of level VI node was 14.3%. Patients with level VI metastas

SJR Q2Tissue Engineering Part A

The use of biomaterials for circumferential esophageal repair is technically challenging in a rat model, and an optimal scaffold implantation technique with nutritional support is essential. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of three-dimensional printed esophageal grafts and bioreactor cultivation on muscle regeneration and reepithelialization from circumferential esophageal defects in a rat model. Here, we designed an artificial esophagus that can enhance the regeneration

Current treatments of oesophageal diseases, such as carcinoma, congenital abnormality or trauma, require surgical intervention and oesophageal reconstruction with the stomach, jejunum or colon. However, serious side effects are possible with each treatment option. Despite tissue engineering promising to be an effective regenerative strategy, no functional solution currently exists for oesophageal reconstruction. Here, we developed an omentum-cultured oesophageal scaffold reinforced by a 3D-print

MSC-SPs were well maintained in the HA gel, and live-dead staining confirmed that most cells survived. The HA gel containing the MSC-SPs was then injected into the damaged esophageal layer. Inflammatory signs or adverse tissue reactions were not observed after esophageal injection of HA-gel-encapsulated MSC-SPs. Based on Masson's trichrome staining at 4 and 12 weeks postinjection, the inner esoph
