MPTP-driven NLRP3 inflammasome activation in microglia plays a central role in dopaminergic neurodegeneration

SJR Q1Cell Death and DifferentiationOA

Abstract Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN) and the reduction of dopamine levels in the striatum. Although details of the molecular mechanisms underlying dopaminergic neuronal death in PD remain unclear, neuroinflammation is also considered a potent mediator in the pathogenesis and progression of PD. In the present study, we present evidences that microglial NLRP3 inflammasome activati

Segmenting the non‐adopter category in the diffusion of internet banking

SJR Q1International Journal of Bank Marketing

Purpose For a new technology‐based product or service at an early stage of diffusion, it is likely that only a small subset of consumers have adopted it. When non‐adopters still comprise the majority of the target populations, describing all non‐adopters as a homogeneous population may be inaccurate and inappropriate. It is important to be able to identify differences, not only between adopters and non‐adopters, but also among non‐adopters, the latter providing a means of identifying the consume

The requirement of uncoordinated 51-like kinase 1 (ULK1) and ULK2 in the regulation of autophagy
Eun‐Ju Lee, Cathy Tournier
SJR Q1AutophagyOA

Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved physiological process of self-digestion by a cell to adapt to various stresses, including starvation. Its molecular basis involves the concerted activation of proteins encoded by the family of autophagy-related (Atg) genes. The best characterized is the serine/threonine protein kinase Atg1 in yeast which appears to be essential at the early stage of autophagy. In mammals, five Atg1 homologues have been identified as uncoordinated (UNC) 51-like kinase 1 to

SJR Q1Molecular CancerOA

BACKGROUND: Insulin-like growth factor binding protein 2 (IGFBP2) is overexpressed in ovarian malignant tissues and in the serum and cystic fluid of ovarian cancer patients, suggesting an important role of IGFBP2 in the biology of ovarian cancer. The purpose of this study was to assess the role of increased IGFBP2 in ovarian cancer cells. RESULTS: Using western blotting and tissue microarray analyses, we showed that IGFBP2 was frequently overexpressed in ovarian carcinomas compared with normal o

Dkk3, downregulated in cervical cancer, functions as a negative regulator of β‐catenin
Eun‐Ju Lee, MinWha Jo, Seung Bae Rho, Kyoungsook Park, Yae‐Na Yoo, Junsoo Park, Myounghee Chae, Wei Zhang, Je–Ho Lee
SJR Q1International Journal of CancerOA

The Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway is activated during the malignant transformation of keratinocytes that originate from the human uterine cervix. Dkk1, 2 and 4 have been shown to modulate the Wnt-induced stabilization of the beta-catenin signaling pathway. However, the function of Dkk3 in this pathway is unknown. Comparison of the Dkk3 gene expression profiles in cervical cancer and normal cervical tissue by cDNA microarray and subsequent real-time PCR revealed that the Dkk3 gene is frequen

A Two‐Step Estimation of Consumer Adoption of Technology‐Based Service Innovations
Eun‐Ju Lee, Jinkook Lee, David B. Eastwood
SJR Q1Journal of Consumer Affairs

Firms initially offer new technology‐based services to a limited number of customers to reduce risks and maximize their returns on the investments in the new technology. Consequently, consumers’ adoption of new technology‐based services is restricted by the limited access provided by the businesses. A model of consumer adoption was developed and estimated via a two‐step procedure. A significant sample selection bias was found with regard to access when estimating consumer adoption of a relativel

The Influence of Communication Source and Mode on Consumer Adoption of Technological Innovations
Eun‐Ju Lee, Jinkook Lee, David W. Schumann
SJR Q1Journal of Consumer Affairs

Communication is the critical process of diffusion of technological innovations, yet there is little research in the consumer behavior literature investigating how communication affects consumers’ decision to adopt technological innovations. This paper examines the effects of communication source and modality on consumers’ adoption of technological innovations using the 1999 University of Michigan's Survey of Consumers data. Specifically, a typology of communication sources and modality is prese

SJR Q1Experimental & Molecular MedicineOA

Since genetic abnormalities of human cancer are greatly geographically dependent, cultural and environmental backgrounds are thought to be closely related to the carcinogenic process. In the present study, eight human cell lines were established by culture from untreated carcinomas of the oral cancer, of which five were from primary oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSC), one from a mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) and one each originating from metastatic OSC and MEC. All the studied tumor lines grew

Distinct Features of Brain-Resident Macrophages: Microglia and Non-Parenchymal Brain Macrophages

SJR Q1Molecules and CellsOA

Tissue-resident macrophages play an important role in maintaining tissue homeostasis and innate immune defense against invading microbial pathogens. Brain-resident macrophages can be classified into microglia in the brain parenchyma and non-parenchymal brain macrophages, also known as central nervous system-associated or border-associated macrophages, in the brain-circulation interface. Microglia and non-parenchymal brain macrophages, including meningeal, perivascular, and choroid plexus macroph
