15Objective There are conflicting results among previous studies regarding the prognosis of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) compared with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). This study aimed to compare the outcomes of patients with de novo acute heart failure (AHF) or acute decompensated HF (ADHF) according to HFpEF (EF≥50%), or HFrEF (EF<40%) and to define the prognosis of patients with HF with mid-range EF (HFmrEF, 40≤EF<50%). Methods Between March
A 12-lead ECG is a simple and less costly measure to assess cardiac amyloidosis and may reflect the infiltrative nature of cardiac amyloidosis and have prognostic value for predicting overall survival in patients with cardiac AL amyloidosis. Therefore, we investigated the associations of surface ECG parameters with left ventricular (LV) global longitudinal strain (GLS) and prognosis in patients with cardiac AL amyloidosis. We performed a multi-center, retrospective analysis of 102 biopsy-proven
As cardiac involvement is the most important prognostic marker in light-chain amyloidosis (AL), revised Mayo staging for AL incorporated N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NTproBNP) and troponin T (TnT). However, prognostic value of novel biomarkers, such as soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2), growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15), or osteopontin (OPN) is unknown in AL amyloidosis. We aimed to investigate additive predictive effects of novel biomarkers for overall mortality
Primary cardiac lymphoma is a rare malignancy which has been described as thickened myocardium due to the infiltration of atypical lymphocytes and accompanying intracardiac masses. Here, we report a case of a primary cardiac lymphoma without demonstrable intracardiac masses, mimicking infiltrative cardiomyopathy. A 40-year-old male presented with exertional dyspnoea and was diagnosed as having restrictive cardiomyopathy with severely decreased LV systolic function. Endomyocardial biopsy was perf
A spiral-artificial basilar membrane (S-ABM) sensor is reported that mimics the basilar membrane (BM) of the human cochlea and can detect sound by separating it into 24 sensing channels based on the frequency band. For this, an analytical function is proposed to design the width of the BM so that the frequency bands are linearly located along the length of the BM. To fabricate the S-ABM sensor, a spiral-shaped polyimide film is used as a vibrating membrane, with maximum displacement at locations
Abstract Aims Cardiac involvement is crucial factor determining outcomes of light chain (AL) amyloidosis. This study evaluated whether capillary density (CD) quantified from endomyocardial biopsy is associated with structural and functional parameters of amyloid heart. Also, we investigated whether capillary density improves the prognostic value of the current staging system in AL amyloidosis patients with cardiac involvement. Methods and results A total of 67 patients with biopsy-proven AL card
Hereditary transthyretin (TTR)-related amyloidosis (ATTR) seems to be a rare autosomal-dominant inherited form of systemic amyloidosis. Studies indicate considerable heterogeneity in the disease's presentation and genotype; however, there is little data from Korea, where the prevalence of hereditary ATTR is very low. In this study, we investigated the phenotypic and genotypic spectra of hereditary ATTR in Korea. Direct sequencing analysis was performed to detect TTR gene mutations in amyloidosis
NCT03156842, Registered 17 May 2017.
Pharmacotherapy for the treatment of heart failure has advanced considerably in recent years, and clinical trials have demonstrated the favorable long-term effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI and beta- blockers on the morbidity and mortality. Although the current guidelines recommend ACEI and beta-blockers as standard therapy for heart failure, as they have demonstrated benefits in terms of mortality, only one third of patients with heart failure are receiving both classes
