15We demonstrate significantly improved magneto-optical trapping of molecules using a very slow cryogenic beam source and either rf modulated or dc magnetic fields. The rf magneto-optical trap (MOT) confines 1.0(3)×10^{5} CaF molecules at a density of 7(3)×10^{6} cm^{-3}, which is an order of magnitude greater than previous molecular MOTs. Near Doppler-limited temperatures of 340(20) μK are attained. The achieved density enables future work to directly load optical tweezers and create optical arra

Ultracold polar molecules are promising candidate qubits for quantum computing and quantum simulations. Their long-lived molecular rotational states form robust qubits, and the long-range dipolar interaction between molecules provides quantum entanglement. In this work, we demonstrate dipolar spin-exchange interactions between single calcium monofluoride (CaF) molecules trapped in an optical tweezer array. We realized the spin-[Formula: see text] quantum XY model by encoding an effective spin-[F
We demonstrate the mixing of rotational states in the ground electronic state using microwave radiation to enhance optical cycling in the molecule yttrium (II) monoxide (YO). This mixing technique is used in conjunction with a frequency modulated and chirped continuous wave laser to slow longitudinally a cryogenic buffer-gas beam of YO. We generate a flux of YO below 10 m/s, directly loadable into a three-dimensional magneto-optical trap. This technique opens the door for laser cooling of diatom
Quasiparticles in quantum many-body systems have essential roles in modern physical problems. Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC) of excitons in semiconductors is one of the unobserved quantum statistical phenomena predicted in the photoexcited quasiparticles in many-body electrons. In particular, para-excitons in cuprous oxide have been studied for decades because the decoupling from the radiation field makes the coherent ensemble a purely matter-like wave. However, BEC has turned out to be hard t
Qubit coherence times are critical to the performance of any robust quantum computing platform. For quantum information processing using arrays of polar molecules, a key performance parameter is the molecular rotational coherence time. We report a 93(7) ms coherence time for rotational state qubits of laser cooled CaF molecules in optical tweezer traps, over an order of magnitude longer than previous systems. Inhomogeneous broadening due to the differential polarizability between the qubit state
An elementary review on principles of qubits and their prospects for quantum computing is provided. Due to its rapid development, quantum computing has attracted considerable attention as a core technology for the next generation and has demonstrated its potential in simulations of exotic materials, molecular structures, and theoretical computer science. To achieve fully error-corrected quantum computers, building a logical qubit from multiple physical qubits is crucial. The number of physical q
Direct loading of lanthanide atoms into magneto-optical traps (MOTs) from a very slow cryogenic buffer gas beam source is achieved, without the need for laser slowing. The beam source has an average forward velocity of 60--70 m s 1 and a velocity half-width of -35 m s 1 , which allows for direct MOT loading of Yb, Tm, Er and Ho. Residual helium background gas originating from the beam results in a maximum trap lifetime of about 80 ms (with Yb). The addition of a single-frequency slowing laser ap
The active galaxy Markarian 421 underwent a substantial outburst in early 2001. Between January and May of that year, the STACEE detector was used to observe the source in gamma-rays between the energies of 50 and 500 GeV. These observations represent the lowest energy gamma-ray detection of this outburst by a ground-based experiment. Here we present results from these observations, which indicate an average integral gamma-ray flux of (8.0 +/- 0.7 +/- 1.5)x10^-10 1/cm^2/s. above 140 GeV. We also
A compact green astro-comb with a 43 GHz repetition rate is developed based on a Ti:sapphire optical frequency comb (OFC) and a mode-selecting cavity. The OFC’s large repetition rate of 1.6 GHz eases the requirements for the mode-selecting cavity. Unnecessary frequency modes of the OFC are suppressed down to 5 × 10 <mml:mrow c
Ultracold polar molecules are promising for quantum information processing and searches for physics beyond the standard model. Laser cooling to ultracold temperatures is an established technique for trapped diatomic and triatomic molecules. Further cooling of the molecules to near the motional ground state is crucial for reducing various dephasings in quantum and precision applications. In this work, we demonstrate Raman sideband cooling (RSC) of CaF molecules in optical tweezers to near their m
Abstract Optically trapped laser-cooled polar molecules hold promise for new science and technology in quantum information and quantum simulation. Large numerical aperture optical access and long trap lifetimes are needed for many studies, but these requirements are challenging to achieve in a magneto-optical trap (MOT) vacuum chamber that is connected to a cryogenic buffer gas beam source, as is the case for all molecule laser cooling experiments so far. Long distance transport of molecules gre
Due to their intrinsic electric dipole moments and rich internal structure, ultracold polar molecules are promising candidate qubits for quantum computing and for a wide range of quantum simulations. Their long-lived molecular rotational states form robust qubits while the long-range dipolar interaction between molecules provides quantum entanglement. Using a molecular optical tweezer array, single molecules can be moved and separately addressed for qubit operations using optical and microwave f
Abstract In perovskite solar cells (PSCs), expensive gold or silver metal has traditionally been utilized as the rear electrode for highly efficient performance. In this context, carbon nanotube (CNT) electrodes have been considered promising rear electrodes because of their excellent electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, and chemical stability in PSCs. Despite these favorable characteristics, concerns have been raised about the power conversion efficiency (PCE) and stability of PSCs bas
