Abstract We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of primary retropupillary iris claw intraocular lens (R-IOL) implantation in patients with complete intraocular lens (IOL) dislocation. In this single-center retrospective case series, we reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent R-IOL implantation surgery with pars plana vitrectomy for the treatment of IOL dislocation between September 2014 and July 2019. The primary outcome was change in visual acuity (VA) up to 24 months po
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether perivascular space (PVS) severity and retinal ganglion cell layer (GCL) thickness differed based on the stage of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and the cognitive status in patients with DR. Methods: A total of 81 patients with DR (51 in the non-proliferative group and 30 in the proliferative group) were included in this retrospective, cross-sectional study. PVS severity was assessed in the basal ganglia (BG) and centrum semiovale using MRI. The t
The functional role of Langerhans cells (LCs) in ocular surface inflammation and nerve damage in dry eye (DE) disease has yet to be determined. This study was performed to investigate this relationship through both clinical study on DE patients and in vivo mouse models with induced DE disease. In a cross-sectional case-control study (54 eyes of DE patients; 34 eyes of control patients), average cell density, area, and process length of LCs were measured using confocal microscopy. Data were analy
Lamellar microdomain orientation in polystyrene- b -poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS- b -PMMA) films was controlled by a solvent vapor annealing process, where the high-molecular-weight block copolymer (BCP) was used to self-assemble in a large period of 105 nm. A neutral solvent annealing with tetrahydrofuran vapor screened the difference in the surface energy between the two blocks and the interfacial interactions of the substrate with each block, leading to the substrate-independent perpendicula
Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC), characterized by serous detachment of the macular retina, can cause permanent vision loss in the chronic course. Chronic CSC is generally treated with photodynamic therapy (PDT), which is costly and quite invasive, and the results are unpredictable. In a retrospective case-control study design, we developed a two-stage deep learning model to predict 1-year outcome of PDT using initial multimodal clinical data. The training dataset included 166 eyes with ch
BACKGROUND: Acute retinal necrosis (ARN) is a fulminant necrotizing vaso-occlusive retinitis associated with a high incidence of vision loss. Prognostic factors associated with the treatment of ARN have not been comprehensively identified. This study aimed to determine therapeutic prognostic factors associated with long-term clinical outcomes in eyes with ARN. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included patients with ARN who were treated between 2005 and 2019 in two tertiary ophthalmology
PURPOSE: To report the surgical results of goniotomy for corticosteroid-induced glaucoma and to provide evidence to support its use as initial surgical therapy. METHODS: The medical records of 5 patients with a history of goniosurgery for steroid-induced glaucoma were reviewed. Preoperative and postoperative clinical findings were reviewed, including the topical use of steroids, tonometric and gonioscopic findings, goniosurgery, and postoperative results. In addition, tonography was performed on
The purpose of this study was to examine the leisure satisfaction of married women participating in life dance that would influence both the women’s physical self-efficiency and psychological well-being. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, the leisure satisfaction of the life dance participants was found to have exerted an influence on their physical self-presentation. Second, the leisure satisfaction of the life dance participants was found to have exerted an influence on their p
Autoimmune retinopathy (AIR) is an immune-mediated retinopathy, resulting from an immunologic process caused by the aberrant recognition of retinal antigens as autoantigens. The diagnosis of AIR involves the detection of antiretinal antibodies with concurrent clinical and electrophysiological evidence of retinopathy. A 40-year-old patient presented with progressive loss of bilateral vision over several months. A fundus examination was unremarkable. Spectral domain optical coherence tomography re
Branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) is a leading cause of visual impairment in working-age individuals, though predicting its occurrence from retinal vascular features alone remains challenging. We developed a deep learning model to predict BRVO based on pre-onset, metadata-matched fundus hemisection images. This retrospective cohort study included patients diagnosed with unilateral BRVO from two Korean tertiary centers (2005-2023), using hemisection fundus images from 27 BRVO-affected eyes pai
