15CML-derived exosomes could act as novel targets for the detection of the BCR-ABL transcript.
Extracellular vesicle (EV) proteins from acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cell lines were analyzed using mass spectrometry. The analyses identified 2450 proteins, including 461 differentially expressed proteins (290 upregulated and 171 downregulated). CD53 and CD47 were upregulated and were selected as candidate biomarkers. The association between survival of patients with AML and the expression levels of CD53 and CD47 at diagnosis was analyzed using mRNA expression data from The Cancer Genome Atlas
BACKGROUND: We assessed the mechanism of hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) mobilization using etoposide with granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), and determined how this mechanism differs from that induced by cyclophosphamide with G-CSF or G-CSF alone. METHODS: We compared the clinical features of 173 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma patients who underwent autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (auto-PBSCT). Additionally, we performed in vitro experiments to assess the changes in huma
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to establish clinically significant microRNA (miRNA) sets using extracellular vesicles (EVs) from bone marrow (BM) aspirates of patients with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), and to identify the genes that interact with these EV-derived miRNAs in AML. MATERIALS AND METHODS: BM aspirates were collected from 32 patients with AML at the time of AML diagnosis. EVs were isolated using size-exclusion chromatography. A total of 965 EV-derived miRNAs were identified in all
BACKGROUND: Although many acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients have been treated with hypomethylating agents (HMAs) as a substitute for intensive chemotherapy in recent years, the incidence of invasive fungal infections (IFIs) and the efficacy of posaconazole as antifungal prophylaxis in these patients are not well known to date. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 280 AML and MDS patients treated with HMAs to identify IFI incidence and posaconazole efficacy
Abstract Our aim was to compare the efficacy and safety of two recently developed biosimilars of pegfilgrastim, a pegylated form of the recombinant human granulocyte‐colony stimulating factor (G‐CSF) analog filgrastim with those of the reference pegfilgrastim. We retrospectively analyzed data from patients diagnosed with diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma (DLBCL) who were treated with first‐line R‐CHOP chemotherapy and received pegylated G‐CSF for primary prophylaxis. The following pegylated G‐CSFs w
In clinical practice, most patients with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) undergo long-term follow-up without disease progression. There is insufficient real-world data about how closely and whether anything other than disease progression should be monitored. Herein, we performed a nationwide study of 470 patients with MGUS with a 10-year follow-up to determine the patterns of disease progression and other comorbidities. During the follow-up period, 158 of 470 patients w
Postoperative thromboembolism (TE) is a serious, but preventable, complication in surgical patients. Orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, and vascular surgery are considered high risk for TE, and current guidelines recommend TE prophylaxis. However, insufficient data exist regarding TE risk in other general surgeries. This study identified the actual incidence and relative risk of postoperative TE in the real world, according to surgery type. Twenty-six surgeries between 1 December 2017 and 31 Augu
The main treatment goal for immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is bleeding risk reduction, particularly during procedures. While adjusting platelet thresholds with ITP treatments is recommended, platelet transfusions are commonly used despite controversial benefits. We evaluated the effectiveness of platelet transfusion in reducing post-procedure bleeding risk and identified predictive indicators of bleeding. A nationally representative database was used to develop a model predicting post-procedure b
BACKGROUND: In the Republic of Korea, only lenalidomide, bortezomib, ixazomib, and thalidomide monotherapy are available as maintenance therapy post-autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT). METHODS: To determine whether maintenance therapy confers a survival benefit in the real world, we compared treatment outcomes according to the use and type of maintenance therapy in patients who underwent ASCT following frontline therapy with the triplet regimen of bortezomib, thalidomide, and dexamethas
Surgical patients are at risk of postoperative complications and mortality, necessitating preoperative patient optimization through the identification and correction of modifiable risk factors. Although preoperative platelet transfusions aim to reduce the risk of bleeding, their efficacy remains uncertain. Similarly, red blood cell transfusion in patients with anemia does not reduce the risk of postoperative mortality and may exacerbate complications. Therefore, developing individualized strateg
Purpose Eculizumab is reported to be highly effective in managing patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). However, eculizumab therapy is associated with high cost and thus is inaccessible to all patients with PNH. Additionally, there are some restrictions in the coverage of PNH therapy from the health insurance, which varies depending on each country. In South Korea, majority of the cost involved in eculizumab therapy is supported by the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS)
