15Our findings suggest a potential negative impact of fresh RBC transfusion on the survival of patients undergoing liver transplantation.
This study was aimed to evaluate the association between preoperative high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI) level and mortality in patients undergoing liver transplantation (LT). From January 2011 to May 2016, preoperative hs-cTnI level was measured in consecutive 487 patients scheduled for LT. Patients with elevated preoperative hs-cTnI were compared with those who had normal level. The primary outcome was all-cause death in follow-up period of 30 days to 1 year after operation. Of the
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship between donor sex and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence after living donor liver transplantation. BACKGROUND: HCC shows a male predominance in incidence and recurrence after tumor resection due to sex differences in hepatic sex hormone receptors. There have been no studies evaluating the importance of donor sex on post-transplant HCC recurrence. METHODS: Of 384 recipients of livers, from living donors, for HCC: 104/120 who received grafts from fema
To compare the postoperative outcome according to the type of anesthesia, formerly prematured and high-risk infants who had received and weaned ventilator care preoperatively and had undergone inguinal herniorrhaphy were enrolled in this study. Immediate pre- and post-operative respiratory data which contained the lowest respiratory rates, SpO2, heart rates and the incidence of hypoxemia and bradycardia were collected with the incidence of ventilator care, application of continuous positive airw
A significant number of complications occurred after infrarenal AAA repair. Therefore, creating a protocol to identify and monitor high risk patients would improve postoperative care.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine whether autotransfusion of salvaged blood with single leukoreduction is associated with post-transplant tumor recurrence in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). BACKGROUND: Previous studies have consistently demonstrated the safety of autotransfusion of salvaged and leukoreduced blood during liver transplantation for HCC. However, the effects of this technique remained unknown for advanced HCC. METHODS: Of 349 patients who under
Rapid crystalloid prehydration can affect CSF flow in the lumbar region, reducing cephalic spread of 0.5% isobaric tetracaine and delaying the time to reach the peak sensory level.
Previous laboratory and clinical data have shown evidence for the concept of rebalanced hemostasis in liver disease. We evaluate whether this concept of rebalanced hemostasis can be applied in patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Twenty patients with ITP (platelet count < 100 × 10(9) /l) who visited our hospital were enrolled. We measured the von Willebrand factor (vWF) antigen levels and performed native blood thromboelastography (TEG) to evaluate the hemostasis. As a subgro
Abstract The second-generation laryngeal mask airway (LMA) provides a higher sealing pressure than classical LMA and can insert the gastric drainage tube. We investigated the difference in respiratory variables according to the use of second-generation LMA and endotracheal tube (ETT) in laparoscopic living liver donor hepatectomy (LLDH). In this single-blind randomized controlled trial, intraoperative arterial carbon dioxide partial pressure at 2 h after the airway devices insertion (P a CO 2_ 2
: We evaluated the incidence and clinical significance of hyperfibrinolysis during living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) using viscoelastic coagulation tests. We retrospectively reviewed adult LDLT recipients from February 2010 to February 2015. Hyperfibrinolysis was defined when clot lysis index [LY60 = (MA - A60)/MA × 100, %] was less than 85, where A60 is the clot amplitude at 60 min after maximum amplitude (MA) occurred. Viscoelastic coagulation tests were performed six times (T1: immedi
The calibrated pulse-wave analysis and intrapulmonary thermodilution failed to show acceptable interchangeability in terms of both estimating CO and tracking CO changes during living donor liver transplantation.
Hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence risk decreases in relation to the increase in total serum bilirubin level of healthy living donors without underlying hepatobiliary or hematological disorders. Further validation of bilirubin as a potent anticancer substance against HCC is warranted.
