Since the robotic surgical system was first introduced in 2005, the number of robotic surgery has been gradually increasing in Korea. The proportion of general robotic surgery is relatively higher compared to the western countries, but robotic liver resection is one of the most complex procedures among robotic general surgery. In this article, we introduce the development of robotic liver resection in Korea and describe our standardized techniques. The current data on robotic liver resection in

Objective: To investigate the feasibility and safety of RLDRH Summary of Background Data: Data for minimally invasive living-donor right hepatectomy, especially RLDRH, from a relatively large donor cohort that have not been reported yet. Methods: From March 2016 to March 2019, 52 liver donors underwent RLDRH. The clinical and perioperative outcomes of RLDRH were compared with those of CODRH (n = 62) and LADRH (n = 118). Donor satisfaction with cosmetic results was compared between RLDRH and LADR

BACKGROUND: Hepatic resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is not currently recommended for patients with clinically significant portal hypertension (PHT); however, recent studies have shown similar post-operative outcomes between patients with and without clinically significant PHT. AIM: To clarify the post-operative prognostic relevance of clinically significant PHT in Child-Pugh A cirrhotic patients. METHODS: A total of 100 Child-Pugh A cirrhotic patients who underwent curative resectio

SJR Q1World Journal of Surgery

BACKGROUND: Whether preoperative transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) has the therapeutic benefits in patients with resectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains uncertain. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively investigated the influence of preoperative TACE on both disease-free survival and the pattern of recurrence after curative resection. From March 1998 to January 2005, a series of 273 patients who underwent curative resection for HCC were reviewed. Altogether, 120 patients underw

SJR Q1World Journal of SurgeryOA

BACKGROUND: In patients with Bismuth type I and II hilar cholangiocarcinoma (HCCA), bile duct resection alone has been the conventional approach. However, many authors have reported that concomitant liver resection improved surgical outcomes. METHODS: Between January 2000 and January 2012, 52 patients underwent surgical resection for a Bismuth type I and II HCCA (type I: n = 22; type II: n = 30). Patients were classified into two groups: concomitant liver resection (n = 26) and bile duct resecti

BACKGROUND: This study was designed to compare perioperative and oncologic outcomes between minimally invasive liver resection (MILR) and conventional open liver resection (COLR) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using a propensity-score matched analysis. METHODS: Ninety-nine patients who received MILR were matched with 198 patients treated with COLR out of 928 patients with HCC who received curative liver resection from 2002 to 2012. A multivariable logistic model based on factors related to t

Robotic major liver resections provided improved perioperative outcomes and comparable long-term oncologic outcome compared with open resections. Therefore, robotic surgery should be considered one of the options for minimally invasive major liver resections.

Hepatic Splenosis Preoperatively Diagnosed as Hepatocellular Carcinoma in a Patient with Chronic Hepatitis B: A Case Report

We report on a case of hepatic splenosis. A 32-yr-old man underwent a splenectomy due to trauma at the age of 6. He had been diagnosed as being a chronic hepatitis B-virus carrier 16 yr prior to the surgery. The dynamic computer tomography (CT) performed due to elevated serum alpha-fetoprotein (128 ng/mL) demonstrated two hepatic nodules, which were located near the liver capsule. A nodule in Segment IVa had a slight enhancement during both the arterial and portal phases, and another nodule in S
