15Gastric and intestinal types of IPN-B have similar clinical characteristics compared with the pancreaticobiliary type, which has a worse prognosis.
EBD was associated with a higher risk of procedure-related complications than PTBD. These complications were managed properly without severe morbidity; however, in the PTBD group, there were two cases of cancer dissemination along the catheter tract.
Percutaneous cholecystostomy is an effective procedure and a good alternative for patients unfit to undergo immediate surgery because of severe sepsis or an underlying comorbidity. After patients with AAC have recovered from percutaneous cholecystostomy, further treatment such as cholecystectomy might not be needed.
BACKGROUND & AIMS: Several staging systems have been proposed for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Among them, only the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) and Hong Kong Liver Cancer (HKLC) staging systems also recommend treatment modality. This study was designed to see whether BCLC and HKLC staging can guide treatment strategy, so analyzed whether patients survival is better for those who received recommended therapy by each staging system. METHODS: A total of 3515 treatment-naïve, newly diagn
BACKGROUND/AIMS: Despite common use of stent-instent methods for endoscopic bilateral metal stenting in malignant hilar obstruction, the longevity of these stents and clinical outcomes of patients who receive them are less well known than for the side-by-side method. We aimed to compare treatment outcomes according to bilateral stenting method. METHODOLOGY: A total of 41 patients were divided into two groups: a bilateral side-by-side metal stenting group (side-by-side group, n=19) and a bilatera
Abstract Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the therapeutic efficacy of RAS inhibitors (RASi) in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) because they may reduce oxidative stress, inflammatory markers, and enhanced fibrosis. An objective of this study was to investigate the role of RASi on NAFLD development and progression in a large cohort. We conducted a nested case–control study. Study subjects were classified into two study cohorts according to baseline NAFLD s
HGD and ductal dilatation are significant predictors of malignancy in ampullary adenomas. When these risk factors are present, precautions should be taken in the consideration of malignancy in patients with ampullary adenoma.
MELD-Na can effectively identify liver functional reserve and prognosis in HCC patients with ascites. MELD-Na, together with the tumor stage, may help establish a therapeutic strategy for them.
A 69-year-old male was diagnosed in February 2004 with stage IV extranodal marginal zone B cell lymphoma involving the mediastinal nodes, lung parenchyma and bone marrow with high LDH. Shortness of breath developed following the 5th course of Rituximab-CHOP chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide, Vincristine, Doxorubicin, Prednisolone). Bronchoscopy guided transbronchial lung biopsy revealed interstitial thickening and type II pneumocyte activation, compatible with interstitial pneumonitis. After treatm
There is a greater need for additional surgery in cases with positive vertical resection margin or inadequate lifting sign, because the risk of residual tumor and lymph node metastasis is higher than in other cases.
An EUS-first strategy in patients with intermediate probability of choledocholithiasis but a negative CT scan is very useful and can reduce the need to perform invasive ERCP.
Background/Aims: Controversy remains over the optimal approach to preoperative biliary drainage in patients with resectable perihilar cholangiocarcinoma. We compared the clinical outcomes of endoscopic biliary drainage (EBD) with those of percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) in patients undergoing preoperative biliary drainage for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma. Methods: A total of 106 consecutive patients who underwent biliary drainage before surgical treatment were divided into two
