15This study was conducted to investigate efficient, systematic management of the Korean police and to examine the status and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders in Korean police officers. For police officers in special working environments, the importance of basic data is emphasized for human resources (HR) management and the prevention of industrial hazards from an industrial health care perspective. This study was conducted on police officers who visited the national police hospital and who
Valvular strands are known to be a potential source of cardioembolism but the natural history of native valvular strands has not yet been fully outlined. We report a case of ischemic stroke in a patient with a native valvular strand of the aortic valve and the patient's clinical course. A previously healthy 21-year-old man suffered acute cerebral infarction in the right posterior cerebral artery territory. On echocardiography, there was a strand-like, oscillating mass on the left coronary cusp o
<b>Background:</b> The aim of the present study was to investigate the associations between thyroid hormones, cognitive performance, and apolipoprotein E (<i>APOE</i>) genotype in euthyroid patients with subjective cognitive decline (SCD). <b>Methods:</b> We recruited 197 euthyroid patients that fulfilled the criteria for SCD. All participants were classified into <i>APOE</i> ε4 carriers and non-carriers based on the presence of the <i>APOE</i> ε4 allele. Patients with SCD who had the <i>APOE</i
Mercury poisoning affects various organs including peripheral and central nervous systems, especially cerebellum. We report a case of mercury intoxication presenting cerebellar ataxia. From several days after exposure to mercury vapor, scanning speech, head titubation, bilateral limb and truncal ataxia developed and progressed slowly. On admission, brain MRI did not show remarkable change. However, nine months later, atrophic changes in both cerebellar hemispheres on follow-up brain MRI and perf
RATIONALES: Cholinergic modification by anticholinergic medication can produce adverse effects in central nervous system (CNS) and cyclopentolate is an antimuscarinic agent widely used for ophthalmologic management. We demonstrate a rare case of hyperactive delirium caused by topical administration of cyclopentolate in a patient with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI) due to Alzheimer's disease (AD). PATIENT CONCERNS: A 74-year-old man showed acute confusion after preparation for cataract
DT MRI involves the application of external diffusion-sensitizing magnetic field gradients. In addition, there may be local susceptibility-induced background gradients, related to intrinsic magnetic properties of brain tissue. Paramagnetic iron-containing amyloid plaques in AD may induce local background gradients, interfering with diffusion measurements in the brain. The objective of our study was to map the distribution of local cross-term gradients between the external and internal gradients
Abstract Background Although definite diagnosis for Creutzfeldt‐Jakob disease(CJD) requires tissue confirmation, diffusion‐weighted imaging (DWI) of the brain has an important role in the diagnosis of CJD. Also elevated CSF total tau (t‐tau) is considered as an useful CJD biomarker revealing neuro‐axonal damage although it is not specific for CJD. In this study, we attempted to find out the association between DWI abnormality and CSF t‐tau in CJD patients. Method We retrospectively analyzed the
It has been reported that pathological white matter changes develops in at least 50% of patients with AD. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) studies revealed a pattern of reduced fractional anisotropy (FA) and increased mean diffusivity in AD patients compared with healthy controls, indicating white matter deterioration. The effect of APOE ε4 on WM integrity in AD patients is incongruous. The aim of this study is to find the effect of APOE ε4 on WM integrity in AD patients using DTI. A total of 25 p
BACKGROUND: Cerebral blood flow (CBF) plays a pivotal role in maintaining brain function and metabolism, serving as a crucial parameter for assessing brain health. Similarly, the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) measures kidney function and determines kidney disease stages. CBF and eGFR assess the vascular health of two essential organs-the brain and the kidney. METHOD: We enrolled 785 healthy middle-aged and older adults undergoing regular health check-ups at our Health Promotion Cen
