14Despite the increasing body of research on job crafting, the relationship between managers' job crafting and their turnover intention, as well as its intermediary mechanisms, has received relatively little attention from researchers. This study examined how managers' job crafting negatively affected their turnover intention, focusing on role ambiguity and emotional exhaustion as underlying mediators. Data were collected from 235 store managers in South Korean food franchises. All study hypothese
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in South Korea in January 2020, many South Korean employees have been experiencing work stressors, threats of job insecurity, and feelings of isolation, which together lead to emotional exhaustion. The present study aimed to compare the emotional exhaustion of South Korean employees before and after the pandemic, as well as to examine how the demographic characteristics of employees affected their emotional exhaustion. We administered surveys to 276 em
Purpose Due to volatile changes and crises in the business environment, frontline service employees (FSEs) are faced with increasing work stressors in the new service marketplace. Of these, customer incivility has been found to negatively affect their work outcomes. This study aims to examine the moderating effect of experiencing an imminent environmental crisis (i.e. the COVID-19 pandemic) on the relationship between customer incivility, work engagement and job crafting, using pre- and postpand
The purpose of this study was to develop a gratification model to encompass the motivations and usage patterns involved with sport team mobile apps. The hypotheses were tested by a structural equation modeling with single-group and multiple-group (i.e., age and gender) levels. The results indicated that of the 11 motivational factors, seven (i.e., Information Seeking , Convenience , Economic Incentives , Entertainment , Fantasy , Curiosity , and Parasocial ) directly influenced Continuance Inten
Purpose This study aims to explore how and when managers' job crafting contributes to their service performance. The first objective of the research was to assess the mediating relationship between franchised restaurant managers' job crafting, work engagement and service performance. Its second objective was to examine the moderating effect of organizational control systems on the job crafting–work engagement relationship. Design/methodology/approach The authors administered paper-and-pencil sur
This study investigates the daily dynamics between recovery experiences, sleep quality, resilience, job crafting, and long-term job performance. By building on prior research that highlights the critical roles of recovery and sleep in employee well-being and performance, we focus on job crafting as a key behavioral outcome of off-job recovery activities. Drawing on the self-regulatory strength model, we propose that recovery experiences and sleep quality replenish self-regulatory resources neede
Work-from-home (WFH) practices, rapidly adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic, have transformed flexible work arrangements, especially in South Korea. Based on the conservation of resources theory, we investigated whether WFH satisfaction enhances resilience and task crafting and how job tenure affects this. Using regression-based path modelling, our analysis of one-month-apart, two-wave data from 337 WFH employees revealed novel insights: the WFH satisfaction – task crafting relationship was med
Purpose This study examines the effects of customer incivility on emotional labor through customer orientation and the moderating effects of conflict with supervisors or coworkers. This relationship can be explained using the transactional model of stress. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected through a two-wave survey of 222 flight attendants working for a South Korean airline. The Mplus macro was used to test the relationship between customer orientation (leading to emotional labor t
Numerous disinfection methods have been developed to reduce the transmission of infectious diseases that threaten human health. However, it still remains elusively challenging to develop eco-friendly and cost-effective methods that deactivate a wide range of pathogens, from viruses to bacteria and fungi, without doing any harm to humans or the environment. Herein we report a natural spraying protocol, based on a water-dispersible supramolecular sol of nature-derived tannic acid (TA) and Fe 3+, w
Purpose This study investigated the mediating relationship between service employees' insomnia, resilience, and job performance, as well as the moderating role of organizational health climate on this relationship. Design/methodology/approach Three-wave data were collected from 318 South Korean employees in various service sectors. Findings As predicted, the insomnia experienced by service employees was negatively associated with their subsequent job performance, and resilience played a mediatin
Despite the increasing importance of and demand for work-life balance and employee well-being, there is a dearth of research findings on the role of recovery experiences and sleep quality in proactive behaviors and job crafting among employees. Our study is the first to examine the relationships that overnight recovery experiences and sleep quality share with next-day job crafting and the underlying mediating mechanisms. Drawing upon the self-regulatory strength model, we predict that overnight
