15The degradation of ferroelectric (FE) properties of atomic layer deposited Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 films with increasing thickness was mitigated by inserting 1 nm-thick Al2O3 interlayer at middle position of the thickness of the FE film. The large Pr of 10 μC/cm2, which is 11 times larger than that of single layer Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 film with equivalent thickness, was achieved from the films as thick as 40 nm. The Al2O3 interlayer could interrupt the continual growth of Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 films, and the resulting decr
The appearance of ferroelectric (FE) and anti-ferroelectric (AFE) properties in HfO2-based thin films is highly intriguing in terms of both the scientific context and practical application in various electronic and energy-related devices. Interestingly, these materials showed a "wake-up effect", which refers to the increase in remanent polarization with increasing electric field cycling number before the occurrence of the fatigue effect. In this work, the wake-up effect from Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 was car
Ultrasound is used as an external trigger for the pulsatile release of the drug ibuprofen. The system is composed of mesoporous silica as the drug reservoir and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) as an implantable body. This system could find use for in vivo delivery of drugs in response to changes in physiological conditions.
BACKGROUND: Long-term population-representative data on motor fluctuations and levodopa-induced dyskinesias in Parkinson's disease is lacking. METHODS: The Cambridgeshire Parkinson's Incidence from GP to Neurologist (CamPaIGN) cohort comprises incident PD cases followed for up to 13 years (n = 141). Cumulative incidence of motor fluctuations and levodopa-induced dyskinesias and risk factors were assessed using Kaplan-Meyer and Cox regression analyses. RESULTS: Cumulative incidence of motor fluct
Proposes a new way of managing flash memory space for flash memory-specific file systems based on a log-structured file system. Flash memory has attractive features such as non-volatility and fast I/O speed, but it also suffers from an inability to update in place, and limited usage cycles. These drawbacks require many changes to conventional storage (file) management techniques. Our focus is on lowering the cleaning cost and evenly utilizing flash memory cells while maintaining a balance betwee
Subthalamic deep brain stimulation (STN DBS) is an established treatment for the motor symptoms in patients with advanced Parkinson's disease (PD). In addition to improvements in motor symptoms, many studies have reported changes in various nonmotor symptoms (NMSs) after STN DBS in patients with PD. Psychiatric symptoms, including depression, apathy, anxiety, and impulsivity, can worsen or improve depending on the electrical stimulation parameters, the locations of the stimulating contacts withi
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective medical record review to determine the survival of 455 Korean multiple system atrophy (MSA) patients and examined the effect of clinical factors that could possibly influence survival. The patients comprised 222 men and 233 women. RESULTS: Age at onset was 60.1 ± 8.8 years (mean ± SD) and did not differ between the sexes. Parkinsonism was the most prevalent initial symptom, followed by cerebellar dysfunction and dysautonomia. Age at onset was significantly o
STN DBS improves pain in PD, and this beneficial effect persists, being observed after a prolonged follow-up of 24 months. In addition, in many of the PD patients new, mainly musculoskeletal pain developed on longer follow-up.
The high proportion of patients with SCA mutations in this study indicates that genetic testing for SCA should be included for patients with MSA, especially for patients with cerebellar dysfunctions.
