We evaluated the GenoType NTM-DR (NTM-DR) line probe assay for identifying Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) species and Mycobacterium abscessus subspecies and for determining clarithromycin and amikacin resistance. Thirty-eight reference strains and 145 clinical isolates (58 MAC and 87 M. abscessus isolates), including 54 clarithromycin- and/or amikacin-resistant strains, were involved.

SJR Q1Journal of Clinical MicrobiologyOA

The Allplex respiratory panels 1, 2, and 3 (Allplex) comprise a one-step real-time reverse transcription-PCR assay for the detection of respiratory viruses (RVs) and influenza A subtypes based on multiple detection temperature (MuDT) technology. The performance of the Allplex assay was compared with those of the AdvanSure RV real-time PCR kit (AdvanSure) and the PowerChek pandemic H1N1/H3N2/H5N1 real-time PCR kit (PowerChek) using 417 clinical respiratory specimens. In comparison with the AdvanS

SJR Q1Journal of Clinical MicrobiologyOA

We evaluated the performance of the Cobas TaqMan MTB test (Roche Diagnostics, Basel, Switzerland), stratified by acid-fast bacilli (AFB) smear grades. The sensitivity of this test in smear-positive specimens was >95% in all grades, while that in trace and negative specimens was 85.3% and 34.4%, respectively.

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

BACKGROUND: The role of bacterial microbiota in the pathogenesis of nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD) is unclear. We aimed to compare the bacterial microbiome of disease-invaded lesions and non-invaded lung tissue from NTM-PD patients. METHODS: We analyzed lung tissues from 23 NTM-PD patients who underwent surgical lung resection. Lung tissues were collected in pairs from each patient, with one sample from a disease-involved site and the other from a non-involved site. Lung

Performance evaluation of the QMAC-dRAST for staphylococci and enterococci isolated from blood culture: a comparative study of performance with the VITEK-2 system

SJR Q1Journal of Antimicrobial ChemotherapyOA

The QMAC-dRAST system provided rapid results and represents an alternative to conventional AST methods. The QMAC-dRAST with colony isolates produced more reliable results for staphylococci and enterococci than the QMAC-dRAST with PBCB. The QMAC-dRAST system also performed comparably to BMD and the VITEK-2 system.

SJR Q1BMC Infectious DiseasesOA

BACKGROUND: The Xpert MTB/RIF assay (Xpert assay; Cepheid, Sunnyvale, CA) is becoming the test of choice for the rapid diagnosis of tuberculosis and rifampin (RIF) resistance. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of the Xpert assay with respect to its clinical application at a tertiary care hospital in Korea, a country with an intermediate tuberculosis burden and high-resource. METHODS: A total of 303 Xpert assay results from 109 smear-positive and 194 smear-negative respiratory

In response to the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, an online laboratory surveillance system was established to monitor severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) real-time reverse transcription-PCR (rRT-PCR) testing capacities and results. SARS-CoV-2 rRT-PCR testing data were collected from 97 clinical laboratories, including 84 medical institutions and 13 independent clinical laboratories in Korea. We assessed the testing capacities to utilize SARS-CoV-2

SJR Q2Annals of Laboratory MedicineOA

Streptococcus suis infection is an emerging zoonosis in Asia. The most common disease manifestation is meningitis, which is often associated with hearing loss and cochleovestibular signs. S. suis infection in humans mainly occurs among risk groups that have frequent exposure to pigs or raw pork. Here, we report a case of S. suis meningitis in a 67-yr-old pig carcass handler, who presented with dizziness and sensorineural hearing loss followed by headaches. Gram-positive diplococci were isolated

BACKGROUND: )-FRT PCR kit (InterLabService Ltd., Moscow, Russia). METHODS: pneumonia [PCP], possible PCP, or unlikely PCP) based on clinical and radiological observations. RESULTS: <0.05). When stratified by sample type, the positive rate for BAL fluids from the clinical PCP group was 100% using either assay, whereas the positive rate for sputum/ETA samples was only 20%. CONCLUSIONS: DNA in a clinical laboratory setting, though their results should be interpreted considering sample type.
