In particular, detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at the parts per billion (ppb) level is critical for the early diagnosis of diseases. To obtain high sensitivity, two requirements need to be simultaneously satisfied: (i) low electrical noise and (ii) strong signal, which existing sensor materials cannot meet. Here, we demonstrat

In this work, we demonstrate that gas adsorption is significantly higher in edge sites of vertically aligned MoS2 compared to that of the conventional basal plane exposed MoS2 films. To compare the effect of the alignment of MoS2 on the gas adsorption properties, we synthesized three distinct MoS2 films with different alignment directions ((1) horizontally aligned MoS2 (basal plane exposed), (2) mixture of horizontally aligned MoS2 and vertically aligned layers (basal and edge exposed), and (3)

Superior chemical sensing performance of black phosphorus (BP) is demonstrated by comparison with MoS2 and graphene. Dynamic sensing measurements of multichannel detection show that BP displays highly sensitive, selective, and fast-responsive NO2 sensing performance compared to the other representative 2D sensing materials. SJR Q1Chemical Communications

Layer-by-layer films comprised of alternating graphene and gold nanoparticle layers are readily produced by the two-step procedure involving the use of vacuum filtration of a reduced graphene oxide solution to fabricate the graphene thin film on the quartz substrate, followed by gold nanoparticle formation by spontaneous reduction of gold ions in a gold salt solution on the graphene films.

Tunable Volatile Organic Compounds Sensor by Using Thiolated Ligand Conjugation on MoS2

SJR Q1Nano Letters

One of the most important issues in the development of gas sensors for breath analysis is the fabrication of gas sensor arrays that possess different responses for recognizing patterns for volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Here, we develop a high-performance chemiresistor with a tunable sensor response and high sensitivity for representative VOC groups by using molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and by conjugating a thiolated ligand (mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA)) to MoS2 surface. Primitive and MUA-co

Porphyrin Functionalized Graphene Sheets in Aqueous Suspensions: From the Preparation of Graphene Sheets to Highly Conductive Graphene Films
Jianxin Geng, Hee‐Tae Jung
SJR Q1The Journal of Physical Chemistry C

Graphene has a unique structure and potential applications in nanoelectronics, nanocomposites, conductive and transparent films, etc. Synthesis of graphene is one of the major research efforts in order to make rapid developments in graphene research. In this study, a new method, that makes use of the π−π interactions between porphyrin and graphene to stabilize the chemically converted graphene (CCG), has been developed for preparation of CCG via chemical reduction of exfoliated graphene oxide (G

In Situ Formation of Multiple Schottky Barriers in a Ti3C2 MXene Film and its Application in Highly Sensitive Gas Sensors

SJR Q1Advanced Functional Materials

Abstract The main gas‐sensing mechanisms of 2D materials are surface charge transfer by analytes and Schottky barrier (SB) modulation at the interface between the metallic and semiconducting surfaces. In particular, dramatic differences in the gas‐sensing performances of 2D materials originate from SB modulation. However, SB sites typically exist only at the interface between the semiconducting channel material and the metal electrode. Herein, in situ formed multiple SBs in a single gas‐sensing

SJR Q1Chemistry of Materials

Understanding the etching mechanisms of MXene and obtaining direct insights into the influence of etchants on structural features and defects are of critical importance for improving MXene properties, optimization of etching protocols, and exploring new MXene compositions. Despite their importance, such studies have been challenging because of the monoatomic thickness of the A-element layers being etched and aggressive etchants that hinder in situ studies. Here, we visualize the etching behavior

The origins of stability of spontaneous vesicles

SJR Q1Proceedings of the National Academy of SciencesOA

Equilibrium unilamellar vesicles are stabilized by one of two distinct mechanisms depending on the value of the bending constant. Helfrich undulations ensure that the interbilayer potential is always repulsive when the bending constant, K, is of order k(B)T. When K k(B)T, unilamellar vesicles are stabilized by the spontaneous curvature that picks out a particular vesicle radius; other radii are disfavored energetically. We present measurements of the bilayer elastic constant and the spontaneous

In this work, we prepared 90 nm thick Ti 3 C 2 T x –graphene oxide (GO) membranes laminated on a porous support by mixing GO with Ti 3 C 2 T x . This process was chosen to prevent the penetration of target molecules through inter-edge defects or voids with poor packing. The lattice period of the prepared membrane was 14.28 Å, as being swelled with water, resulting in an effective interlayer spacing of around 5 Å, which corresponds to two layers of water molecules. The composite membranes effecti

Gas molecules are known to interact with two-dimensional (2D) materials through surface adsorption where the adsorption-induced charge transfer governs the chemiresistive sensing of various gases. Recently, titanium carbide (Ti3C2Tx) MXene emerged as a promising sensing channel showing the highest sensitivity among 2D materials and unique gas selectivity. However, unlike conventional 2D materials, MXenes show metallic conductivity and contain interlayer water, implying that gas molecules will li

SJR Q1ACS Catalysis

This study provides a significant enhancement in CO 2 photoconversion efficiency by the functionalization of a reduced graphene oxide/cadmium sulfide composite (rGO/CdS) with amine. The amine-functionalized graphene/CdS composite (AG/CdS) was obtained in two steps. First, graphene oxide (GO) was selectively deposited via electrostatic interaction with CdS nanoparticles modified with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane. Subsequently, ethylenediamine (NH 2 C 2 H 4 NH 2 ) was grafted by an N, N ′-dicycloh

Z-scheme Photocatalytic CO2 Conversion on Three-Dimensional BiVO4/Carbon-Coated Cu2O Nanowire Arrays under Visible Light
Chansol Kim, Kyeong Min Cho, Ahmed AlSaggaf, Issam Gereige, Hee‐Tae Jung
SJR Q1ACS Catalysis

Cuprous oxide (Cu2O) is one of the most promising materials for photoreduction of CO2 because of its high conduction band and small band gap, which enable the production of high-potential electrons under visible-light irradiation. However, it is difficult to reduce the CO2 using a Cu2O-based photocatalyst due to fast charge recombination and low photostability. In this work, we enhanced the photocatalytic CO2 conversion activity of Cu2O by hybridization of Cu2O NWAs, carbon layers, and BiVO4 nan
