SJR Q1Biochemical JournalOA

Protein-protein interactions can be regulated by protein modifications such as phosphorylation. Some of the phosphorylation sites (Ser155, Ser162 and Ser170) of HBV (hepatitis B virus) Cp have been discovered and these sites are implicated in the regulation of viral genome encapsidation, capsid localization and nucleocapsid maturation. In the present report, the dimeric form of HBV Cp was phosphorylated by PKA (protein kinase A), but not by protein kinase C in vitro, and the phosphorylation of d

What Makes Urban Transportation Efficient? Evidence from Subway Transfer Stations in Korea
Changhee Kim, Soo Hyun Kim, Hee Yong Kang, Seung‐Min Song
SJR Q1SustainabilityOA

Subway stations have been proliferating underneath cosmopolitan metropolises with subway lines forming complex webs connected in strategic transfer stations. The efficiency of the subway system thus heavily weighs on the efficiency at these transfer stations. However, few studies have been conducted on transfer efficiency at transfer stations due to the complexities involved. As the first study of its kind in the subway context, we analyze the transfer efficiency of the subway transfer stations

SJR Q3MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: Total hip replacement (THR) is often accompanied by severe postoperative pain. We aimed to study whether oxycodone can be an effective alternative for fentanyl in the management of early postoperative pain after total hip replacement. METHODS: We conducted a randomized controlled trial on 46 patients scheduled to undergo THR. We followed a standard general anesthetic technique, with endotracheal intubation. Twenty minutes before the end of surgery, single bolus injection of fentanyl,

SJR Q2Anesthesia and Pain MedicineOA

Background: Postoperative sore throat (POST) is a relatively common complication after endotracheal intubation, and various methods has been proposed to prevent it. In the present study, we assessed the effectiveness of ketamine gargling for reducing POST. Methods: This study was conducted in a prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled, and single-blinded manner. The study populations consisted of 40 patients between 20 and 60 years old who were classified as American Society of Anesthesiologi

Pneumothorax after minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis for midshaft clavicle fracture

SJR Q3MedicineOA

RATIONALE: Isolated fracture of clavicle is usually treated with nonoperative conservative treatment. However, surgical treatment, customized for individual patient's need, is increasingly done. With regard to the surgery of the clavicle fracture, pneumothorax is a possible, but rare complication. PATIENT CONCERNS: We report the case of a 32-year-old healthy female patient who underwent minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) due to a clavicle fracture. To avoid direct exposure of fractur

SJR Q3MedicineOA

Microvascular decompression (MVD) is associated with a particularly high risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) among craniotomy patients. However, there is no information regarding the effect of prophylactic palonosetron and sugammadex on PONV in patients undergoing MVD under propofol-maintained anesthesia.Medical records of 274 adults who had undergone MVD under propofol-maintained anesthesia were reviewed. Patients were classified into 4 groups, based on the reversal agent used (sug

An Unusual Delayed Onset of Systemic Toxicity After Fluoroscopy‐Guided Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection With Levobupivacaine: A Case Report

SJR Q1Pain Practice

Abstract Background Cervical epidural steroid injection ( CESI ) with local anesthetics is commonly used to treat neck pain and radicular pain of the upper extremity. Local anesthetic systemic toxicity ( LAST ) occurs shortly after injection as a complication; however, delayed onset is a very rare event, especially in central nervous system ( CNS ) block. Case report We present a case in which delayed onset of LAST occurred in a patient who received CESI for cervical and arm radiating pain due t

Low-dose combined spinal-epidural anesthesia for a patient with a giant hiatal hernia who underwent urological surgery
Mi Kyeong Kim, Junoik Shin, Jeong‐Hyun Choi, Hee Yong Kang
SJR Q3Journal of International Medical ResearchOA

A hiatal hernia refers to herniation of the abdominal organs through the esophageal hiatus of the diaphragm. A giant hiatal hernia affects digestive and cardiopulmonary function by compressing the organs. We report a patient who had low-dose combined spinal and epidural anesthesia (CSEA) for safe and effective anesthesia for conservative treatment of a giant hiatal hernia. An 84-year-old woman who had a giant hiatal hernia was scheduled for ureteroscopic removal of a ureteral stone. CSEA was per

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Abstract The importance of perioperative respiration monitoring is highlighted by high incidences of postoperative respiratory complications unrelated to the original disease. The objectives of this pilot study were to (1) simultaneously acquire respiration rate (RR), tidal volume (TV), minute ventilation (MV), SpO 2 and P et CO 2 from patients in post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) and (2) identify a practical continuous respiration monitoring method by analyzing the acquired data in terms of thei

Comparison of ropivacaine with ropivacaine and fentanyl in continuous epidural analgesia for postherpetic neuralgia
Hee Yong Kang, Chung Hun Lee, Sang Sik Choi, Mi Kyoung Lee, Jongsun Park, Jung Suk Oh
SJR Q3MedicineOA

Continuous epidural analgesia (CEA) using local anesthetics is frequently used to control herpes zoster pain and prevent postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). However, few studies have been conducted to determine the efficacy of epidural drugs administered as CEA to manage PHN. This retrospective study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of CEA with ropivacaine alone or with ropivacaine and fentanyl for controlling pain caused by PHN.We reviewed the medical records of 71 patients. We studied 2 gr

How to get away from the cold: body temperature during surgery
Hee Yong Kang, Jong-Man Kang
SJR Q1Korean journal of anesthesiologyOA

In the movie 'Titanic', the hero fell into the cold sea to save the heroine and eventually died of hypothermia. A patient who enters the cold environment of an operating room is also at risk of becoming hypothermic. The human thermoregulatory system usually maintains the core body temperature near 37℃. Temperature control is accomplished through a feedback mechanism involving the central nervous system. The hypothalamus acts as a thermoregulatory center to increase or decrease total body temp

SJR Q3MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: We evaluated heart rate (HR) and blood pressure (BP) trends when nicardipine (NCD) was co-administered during dexmedetomidine (DEX) sedation after spinal anesthesia. METHODS: Sixty patients aged 19 to 65 were randomly assigned to the DEX or DEX-NCD groups. Five minutes after infusion of the loading dose of DEX, the NCD was administered intravenously at a rate of 5 μg/kg for 5 minutes in the DEX-NCD group. The study starting point was set at 0 minute when the DEX loading dose was init
