15To overcome the drawbacks of conventional drug delivery system, nanoemulsion have been developed as an advanced form for improving the delivery of active ingredients. However, safety evaluation is crucial during the development stage before the commercialization. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the cytotoxicity of two types of newly developed nanoemulsions. Turmeric extract-loaded nanoemulsion powder-10.6 (TE-NEP-10.6, high content of artificial surfactant Tween 80), which forms
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Limited data exist regarding factors predicting respiratory failure (RF) in non-immunocompromised patients with adenovirus (AdV) pneumonia. METHODS: We described characteristics of AdV pneumonia (n = 91) versus non-AdV pneumonia (n = 55) and compared clinico-laboratory and radiological characteristics in patient groups categorized by RF. RESULTS: All 91 AdV pneumonia patients presented with acute respiratory symptoms and radiological infiltrations and had significantly
Adenovirus (AdV) can cause severe pneumonia in non-immunocompromised host, but limited data exist on the distinctive characteristics of AdV pneumonia in non-immunocompromised patients. We evaluated distinctive clinico-laboratory and radiological characteristics and outcomes of AdV pneumonia (n = 179), compared with non-AdV pneumonia (n = 188) in Korean military personnel between 2012 and 2016. AdV pneumonia patients had a higher rate of consolidation with ground-glass opacity (101/152) in lobar
Background and Objectives: Ultrasonography is useful in evaluating patients with renal colic and it has high sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing ureter stones by revealing hydronephrosis. We evaluated the efficacy of point-of-care ultrasonography protocol in managing patients with acute renal colic who visited the emergency department (ED). Materials and Methods: Between March 2019 and July 2019, patients who visited the ED because of renal colic were randomly assigned by date of visit ei
OBJECTIVES: We describe our 3-year experience with endotracheal intubation (ETI) outcomes during a multidisciplinary emergency department (ED)-based quality improvement (QI) program. METHODS: This was a single-center, observational study taking place during a QI program. We used a registry for airway management performed in the ED from April 2014 to February 2017. The QI program focused on procedural standardization, airway management education, and comprehensive preparation of airway equipment.
RealCAC-Net enabled precise CAC quantification for ROSC determination during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Future research should integrate this AI-enhanced ultrasound approach to revolutionize emergency care.
Background and objectives: Ocular ultrasound is a core application of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to assist physicians in promptly identifying various ocular diseases at the bedside; however, hands-on POCUS training is challenging during a pandemic. Materials and Methods: A randomized controlled non-inferiority trial was conducted in an academic emergency department from October 2020 to April 2021. Thirty-two participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups. Group H (hands-on learni
Objective. We conducted this study to evaluate the clinical outcomes of patients with severe sepsis and septic shock who were treated with ketamine for endotra-cheal intubation.Methods. A single-center, retrospective study was carried out to compare the out-comes of patients with severe sepsis and septic shock who received a ketamine or non-ketamine agent for rapid sequence intubation (RSI). We analyzed the sepsis registry for adult patients who presented to the emergency department (ED), met th
Abstract This study was designed to evaluate the hemodynamic effect of norepinephrine (NE) on the peak systolic velocity (PSV), diameter, and blood flow of the common carotid artery (CCA) using the point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in patients with septic shock. The study involved patients above 18 years old with septic shock. Arterial monitoring, carotid ultrasonography, and transthoracic echocardiography were performed before NE administration (T 0 ). When the mean arterial pressure exceeded 65
Thoracic ultrasound (TUS) is an easy-to-use imaging modality that aids physicians in the differential diagnosis of respiratory diseases. However, no data exist on the TUS findings of acute eosinophilic pneumonia (AEP) or their clinical utility in patients with AEP. Thus, we performed an observational study on TUS findings and their clinical utility for follow-up in patients with AEP. We prospectively screened patients who visited the emergency department for acute respiratory symptoms at the Arm
