김희발 교수의 연구실은 가축 유전체와 생물다양성의 유전적 기반을 밝히는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 주로 닭, 토끼, 소, 조개 등 다양한 동물의 유전체를 대상으로 고차원 유전자 분석을 통해 열대 기후 적응, 체형 및 생산성 관련 유전자, 비만과 대사질환의 유전적 기초를 규명하고 있습니다. 특히, 고처리량 시퀀싱과 유전자 연관 분석을 융합한 생물정보학적 접근을 통해 농업 및 의학적 응용가치가 높은 유전적 요소를 탐색하고 있습니다.
