SJR Q2BMC Pulmonary MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: Lung cancer is a common comorbidity of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and has poor outcomes. The incidence and clinical factors related to development of lung cancer in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) are unclear. The aim of this study was to elucidate the cumulative incidence, risk factors, and clinical characteristics of lung cancer in IPF. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we analyzed clinical data for 938 patients who were diagnosed with IPF without lung cancer betwe

SJR Q2European Journal of Radiology OpenOA

Connective tissue diseases (CTDs) demonstrating features of interstitial lung disease (ILD) include systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic sclerosis (SSc), dermatomyositis (DM) and polymyositis (PM), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), Sjogren syndrome (SS), and mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD). On histopathology of lung biopsy in CTD-related ILDs (CTD-ILDs), multi-compartment involvement is an important clue, and when present, should bring CTD to the top of the l

The connective tissue diseases (CTDs) demonstrating features of interstitial lung disease (ILD) include systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS), dermatomyositis (DM) and polymyositis (PM), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), Sjogren's syndrome (SS), and mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD). In RA patients in particular, interstitial lung abnormality (ILA) (of varying degrees; severe vs. mild) is reported to occur in approximately 20-60 % of

Association of plasma level of high-mobility group box-1 with necroptosis and sepsis outcomes
Hongseok Yoo, Yunjoo Im, Ryoung‐Eun Ko, Jin Young Lee, Junseon Park, Kyeongman Jeon
SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Abstract The role of high-mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) in outcome prediction in sepsis is controversial. Furthermore, its association with necroptosis, a programmed cell necrosis mechanism, is still unclear. The purpose of this study is to identify the association between the plasma levels of HMGB1 and the severity and clinical outcomes of sepsis, and to examine the correlation between HMGB1 and key executors of necroptosis including receptor-interacting kinase 3 (RIPK3) and mixed lineage kinase

SJR Q1Emerging infectious diseasesOA

An outbreak of febrile respiratory illness associated with human adenovirus (HAdV) occurred in the South Korea military during the 2014-15 influenza season and thereafter. Molecular typing and phylogenetic analysis of patient samples identified HAdV type 55 as the causative agent. Emergence of this novel HAdV necessitates continued surveillance in military and civilian populations.

SJR Q1ThoraxOA

BACKGROUND: Interstitial lung abnormalities (ILAs) are associated with the risk of lung cancer and its mortality. However, the impact of ILA on treatment-related complications and survival in patients who underwent curative surgery is still unknown. RESEARCH QUESTION: This study aimed to evaluate the significance of the presence of computed tomography-diagnosed ILA and histopathologically matched interstitial abnormalities on postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) and the long-term surviva

Association of Plasma Level of TNF-Related Apoptosis-Inducing Ligand with Severity and Outcome of Sepsis
Hongseok Yoo, Jin Young Lee, Junseon Park, Jeong Hoon Yang, Gee Young Suh, Kyeongman Jeon
SJR Q1Journal of Clinical MedicineOA

Recent studies have suggested that TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is associated with mortality in sepsis, possibly through necroptosis. The objective of this study was to analyze the association between the plasma level of TRAIL and sepsis severity and outcomes. Furthermore, the plasma level of TRAIL was compared to that of receptor-interacting protein kinase-3 (RIPK3), a key executor of necroptosis, to identify any correlation between TRAIL and necroptosis. Plasma levels of TRAIL

SJR Q1Critical CareOA

INTRODUCTION: Although previous studies have reported etiologies, diagnostic strategies, and outcomes of acute respiratory failure (ARF) in cancer patients, few studies investigated ARF in cancer patients presenting with diffuse pulmonary infiltrates. METHODS: This was a retrospective observational study of 214 consecutive cancer patients with diffuse pulmonary infiltrates on chest radiography admitted to the oncology medical intensive care unit for acute respiratory failure between July 2009 an

A scalable multi-sink gradient-based routing protocol for traffic load balancing
Hongseok Yoo, Moonjoo Shim, Dongkyun Kim
SJR Q2EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and NetworkingOA

Abstract Wireless sensor networks have been assumed to consist of a single sink and multiple sensor nodes which do not have mobility. In these networks, sensor nodes near the sink dissipate their energy so fast due to their many-to-one traffic pattern, and finally they die early. This uneven energy depletion phenomenon known as the hot spot problem becomes more serious as the number of sensor nodes (i.e., their scale) increases. Recently, multi-sink wireless sensor networks have been envisioned

Dynamic Channel Coordination Schemes for IEEE 802.11p/1609 Vehicular Networks: A Survey
Hongseok Yoo, Dongkyun Kim
SJR Q2International Journal of Distributed Sensor NetworksOA

IEEE 802.11p/1609-based vehicular networks utilize a multichannel architecture to support vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications. In the multi-channel architecture, the available channels in the 5 GHz spectrum are divided into one control channel (CCH) and multiple service channels (SCHs). Multiple SCHs are defined for nonsafety data transfer, while the CCH is used to broadcast safety messages called beacons and control messages (i.e., service advertisement messages). Ac

Because the isolated M. szulgai from respiratory specimens could be regarded as pathogenic in less than 50% of cases, strict adherence to the recommended diagnostic criteria of non-tuberculous mycobacterial lung disease is essential.

A dynamic safety interval protocol for VANETs
Hongseok Yoo, Jin-Hong Kim, Dongkyun Kim

In IEEE 802.11p/1609-based vehicular networks, the channel access time of a synchronization interval is divided into two fixed-length intervals, i.e. control channel (CCH) and service channel (SCH) intervals. Since the fixed-length intervals cannot be effective for dynamically changing traffic load, some protocols have been recently proposed to support variable-length CCH intervals in order to improve channel utilization. In existing protocols, the CCH interval is subdivided into safety and non-

These results suggest pneumonitis as a potentially significant safety concern for vaccines against SARS-CoV-2. Clinical awareness and patient education are necessary for early recognition and prompt management. Additional research is warranted to identify the epidemiology and characterize the pathophysiology of vaccine-associated pneumonitis.

Association of Plasma Levels of Fas Ligand with Severity and Outcome of Sepsis
Hongseok Yoo, Jin Young Lee, Junseon Park, Gee Young Suh, Kyeongman Jeon
SJR Q1Shock

INTRODUCTION: Levels of the apoptosis regulator Fas ligand (FasL) are associated with severity of sepsis, but its association with the mortality of sepsis and necroptosis, a regulated cell death mechanism, is not yet clear. We aimed to assess the association of FasL level with outcomes of sepsis and receptor interacting protein kinase-3 (RIPK3), an essential necroptosis mediator, for determining the relationship between FasL and necroptosis. METHODS: Plasma FasL and RIPK3 levels were measured by
