연구실 소개

조홍백 교수의 연구실은 박테리아의 세포 분열, 세포벽 생합성 및 병원성 조절 메커니즘을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히 FtsZ와 SlmA를 통한 세포분열 조절, Rod 시스템과 PBP2를 통한 세포형태 유지, 그리고 MltG가 글리칸 사슬의 길이 조절에 관여할 수 있다는 메커니즘 탐색 등 세균의 세포벽 생합성 및 구조 조절을 핵심으로 삼고 있습니다. 또한 병원성 박테리아인 버크홀더스 셴세피아의 쿼orum sensing 시스템과 항생제 저항성 메커니즘에 대한 기초 연구도 함께 수행하고 있습니다.

The tubulin-like FtsZ protein initiates assembly of the bacterial cytokinetic machinery by polymerizing into a ring structure, the Z ring, at the prospective site of division. Cell elongation in rod-shaped bacteria is mediated by the Rod system, a conserved morphogenic complex that spatially controls cell wall assembly by the glycan polymerase RodA and crosslinking enzyme PBP2. The attKLM operon encodes a lactonase (AttM) that hydrolyzes acylhomoserine lactone autoinducers, as well as two putative dehydrogenases (AttK and AttL). Here we show that AttK, AttL, and AttM collectively covert gamma-butyrolactone to succinate. Two metabolic intermediates, gamma-hydroxybutyrate and succinic semialdehyde, inactivated the AttJ repressor in vitro and induced attKLM transcription in vivo.
