15A bivariate Bayes method is proposed for estimating the mortality rates of a single disease for a given population, using additional information from a second disease. The information on the two diseases is assumed to be from the same population groups or areas. The joint frequencies of deaths for the two diseases for given populations are assumed to have a bivariate Poisson distribution with joint means proportional to the population sizes. The relationship between the mortality rates of the tw
Within a Bayesian framework of hierarchical modeling, the inclusion of extra variation effects becomes popular with Poisson and Binomial sampling processes. For the less populated areas, mortality rates are heterogeneous due to environmental effects or other socio-economic status. Thus, the extra variation in the frequency of deaths will usually exceed that expected from sampling distributions. In this paper, we propose a quasi-multiplicative spatio-temporal model (PGC) with gamma extra variatio
During the past three decades, prostate cancer incidence has changed substantially in the United States. A fully Bayesian hierarchical spatio‐temporal interaction model is proposed to estimate prostate cancer incidence rates in the state of Iowa. We introduce random spatial effects to capture the local dependence among regions, random temporal effects to explain the nonlinearity of rates over time, and random spatio‐temporal interactions. In addition, we introduce fixed age effects because most
With advances in the methods of cancer treatment used in modern medicine, the number of breast cancer survivors has been consistently rising. As the number of women who wish to become pregnant after being diagnosed with breast cancer increases, it is necessary to consider fertility preservation in these patients. However, medical doctors may be unaware of the importance of fertility preservation among cancer patients because most patients do not share their concerns about fertility with their do
OBJECTIVE: Muscle strength progressively decreases after menopause. Hand grip strength (HGS) reflects overall muscle strength and may be associated with health-related quality of life (HRQoL). We aimed to assess the association between HGS and HRQoL in postmenopausal women. METHODS: We used nationally representative data on 6,059 postmenopausal women from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2014-2018). HGS was determined as the maximum value in kilograms (kg) achieved usi
After EPT, sRANKL/OPG ratios in the circulation decreased, but changes in this OPG-sRANKL system have no association with changes in any bone marker or BMD. The OPG-sRANKL system in the circulation might be involved in reduced bone resorption after EPT, but does not seem to be clinically useful for predicting BMD or bone turnover status and bone response after hormone therapy.
OBJECTIVE: Tamoxifen has been used to prevent the recurrence of breast cancer. However, tamoxifen-users frequently experience amenorrhea and it can be confused from that caused by other hormonal abnormalities. In amenorrheic patients without breast cancer, clinicians usually measure the sex hormone levels that are known to be associated with ovarian or menstrual function. This study aimed to investigate the feature of female sex hormones in premenopausal breast cancer patients undergoing tamoxif
