This paper investigates unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) enabled secure communication systems where a mobile UAV wishes to send confidential messages to multiple ground users. To improve the security performance, a cooperative UAV is additionally considered that transmits the jamming signal. In this system, we maximize the minimum secrecy rate among the ground users by jointly optimizing the trajectory and the transmit power of the UAVs as well as the user scheduling. SJR Q1IEEE Transactions on Wireless CommunicationsOA

This paper studies multiuser wireless powered communication networks, where energy constrained users charge their energy storages by scavenging energy of the radio frequency signals radiated from a hybrid access point (H-AP). The energy is then utilized for the users' uplink information transmission to the H-AP in time division multiple access mode. In this system, we aim to maximize the uplink sum rate performance by jointly optimizing energy and time resource allocation for multiple users in b

Outage Probability Analysis and Power Splitter Designs for SWIPT Relaying Systems With Direct Link
Hoon Lee, Changick Song, Soo-Hwan Choi, Inkyu Lee
SJR Q1IEEE Communications Letters

This letter investigates the outage performance for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) relaying systems in the presence of direct link between the source and the destination. For the SWIPT, we employ a power splitter (PS) at the relay, which splits the received signal into the information transmission and the energy harvesting parts. First, we provide an analysis of the outage probability as a closed-form based on a high signal-to-noise ratio approximation. From the ana

Hoon Lee, Kyoung‐Jae Lee, Han-Bae Kong, Inkyu Lee
SJR Q1IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology

This paper investigates multiuser multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) wireless powered communication networks where a multiantenna hybrid access point (H-AP) transfers wireless energy to multiantenna users in a downlink phase, and the users utilize the harvested energy for their information transmission to the H-AP in an uplink phase. By employing space-division multiple-access techniques, we propose an optimal algorithm that jointly computes the downlink energy precoding matrices, the uplink

SJR Q1IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications

This paper investigates the optimal transmit beamforming designs for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) in multiple-input single-output interference channels (IFC). Based on cooperation level among transmitters and receivsers, we classify the SWIPT IFC systems into two categories. First, we consider the IFC with partial cooperation, where only channel state information (CSI) is available at transmitters and receivers, but not the signal waveform. Second, we examine the

Deep Learning Framework for Wireless Systems: Applications to Optical Wireless Communications
Hoon Lee, Sang Hyun Lee, Tony Q. S. Quek, Inkyu Lee
SJR Q1IEEE Communications Magazine

Optical wireless communication (OWC) is a promising technology for future wireless communications due to its potential for cost-effective network deployment and high data rate. There are several implementation issues in OWC that have not been encountered in radio frequency wireless communications. First, practical OWC transmitters need illumination control on color, intensity, luminance, and so on, which poses complicated modulation design challenges. Furthermore, signal-dependent properties of

Hoon Lee, Kyoung‐Jae Lee, Hanjin Kim, Inkyu Lee
SJR Q1IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications

This paper considers multiple-input single-output simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) broadcast channels (BCs) where a multi-antenna transmitter serves single antenna receivers each equipped with a time switching (TS) circuit for information decoding (ID) and energy harvesting (EH). To be specific, we study a scheme which jointly determines the time durations allocated for the ID and the EH modes at each receiver and the transmit covariance matrices at the transmitter. T

SJR Q1Optics ExpressOA

This paper presents a deep-learning (DL) based approach to the design of multi-colored visible light communication (VLC) systems where RGB light-emitting diode (LED) lamps accomplish multi-dimensional color modulation under color and illuminance requirements. It is aimed to identify a pair of multi-color modulation transmitter and receiver leading to efficient symbol recovery performance. To this end, an autoencoder (AE), an unsupervised deep learning technique, is adopted to train the end-to-en

Binary signaling design for visible light communication: a deep learning framework
Hoon Lee, Inkyu Lee, Tony Q. S. Quek, Sang Hyun Lee
SJR Q1Optics ExpressOA

This paper develops a deep learning framework for the design of on-off keying (OOK) based binary signaling transceiver in dimmable visible light communication (VLC) systems. The dimming support for the OOK optical signal is achieved by adjusting the number of ones in a binary codeword, which boils down to a combinatorial design problem for the codebook of a constant weight code (CWC) over signal-dependent noise channels. To tackle this challenge, we employ an autoencoder (AE) approach to learn a

The Influence of Extraversion on Leisure Constraints Negotiation Process
Seong Ok Lyu, Chi‐Ok Oh, Hoon Lee
SJR Q1Journal of Leisure Research

Diverse behavioral and psychological elements in the leisure constraints negotiation process are known to be closely associated with each other. Among several psychological factors, personality traits tend to be more stable over time and more influential on an individual's behavior. Nevertheless previous studies that investigated the constraints negotiation process have paid little attention to the influence of the personality traits. Further, people with disabilities likely perceive various lei

Wireless Information and Power Exchange for Energy-Constrained Device-to-Device Communications
Hoon Lee, Kyoung‐Jae Lee, Hanjin Kim, Inkyu Lee
SJR Q1IEEE Internet of Things Journal

This paper studies device-to-device wireless communications, where two energy-constrained Internet-of-Things (IoT) nodes, which do not have constant power supplies, wish to exchange their information with each other. Because of small form factor, the IoT nodes are normally equipped with simple energy storages, which might suffer from a high self-discharging effect. Therefore, the energy stored in each node would not be available after a few time duration. In this system, we investigate power spl

SJR Q1IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology

This paper studies multiple-input multiple-output multiple access wiretap channels (MAC-WT) where an eavesdropper tries to tap the communication between multiple legitimate transmitters and a legitimate receiver. In this system, we propose precoder optimization methods at the transmitters in order to maximize the sum secrecy rate performance. Although this problem can be solved by the well-known difference of convex (DC) programming, we present a more efficient algorithm whose computational comp

Constrained Deep Learning for Wireless Resource Management
Hoon Lee, Sang Hyun Lee, Tony Q. S. Quek

In this paper, we investigate a deep learning (DL) approach to solve a generic constrained optimization problem in wireless networks, where the objective and constraint functions can be nonconvex. To this target, the computation process of the solution is replaced by deep neural networks (DNNs). The original problem is transformed to a training task of the DNNs subject to nonconvex constraints. Since existing DL libraries are originally intended for unconstrained training, they cannot be directl

Bit Allocation and Pairing Methods for Multi-User Distributed Antenna Systems With Limited Feedback
Hoon Lee, Eunsung Park, Haewook Park, Inkyu Lee
SJR Q1IEEE Transactions on Communications

In this paper, we study bit allocation and pairing methods based on distributed zero forcing beamforming for downlink multi-user distributed antenna (DA) systems with limited feedback. Before assigning the feedback bit for each DA port, we need to solve the pairing issue that determines the set of DA ports to support a user. To this end, we first analyze an upper bound of a mean rate loss between perfect channel state information systems and limited feedback systems. Since minimizing the obtaine
