SJR Q1Genes & DevelopmentOA

RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) are potent post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression. Here, we show that the RBP HuR reduced c-Myc expression by associating with the c-Myc 3' untranslated region (UTR) next to a miRNA let-7-binding site. Lowering HuR or let-7 levels relieved the translational repression of c-Myc. Unexpectedly, HuR and let-7 repressed c-Myc through an interdependent mechanism, as let-7 required HuR to reduce c-Myc expression and HuR required let-7 to in

SJR Q1Chemistry of Materials

MXenes are an interesting class of 2D materials consisting of transition metal carbides and nitrides, which are currently a subject of extensive studies. Although there have been theoretical calculations estimating the thermoelectric properties of MXenes, no experimental measurements have been reported so far. In this report, three compositions of Mo-based MXenes (Mo 2 CT x, Mo 2 TiC 2 T x, and Mo 2 Ti 2 C 3 T x ) have been synthesized and processed into free-standing binder-free papers by vacuu

Significance Two-dimensional magnetic semiconductors such as CrI 3 are a new class of van der Waals material that may allow for the development of novel 2D spintronic devices. While strong magnetic anisotropy within the CrI 3 layers stabilizes ferromagnetism down to a monolayer, weak antiferromagnetic coupling between the layers gives rise to extremely large tunnel magnetoresistance. We use a combination of tunneling and magneto-optical measurements to investigate the entire 2D chromium trihalid

SJR Q1Nano LettersOA

We report the observation of a very large negative magnetoresistance effect in a van der Waals tunnel junction incorporating a thin magnetic semiconductor, CrI3, as the active layer. At constant voltage bias, current increases by nearly one million percent upon application of a 2 T field. The effect arises from a change between antiparallel to parallel alignment of spins across the different CrI3 layers. Our results elucidate the nature of the magnetic state in ultrathin Cr

MXetronics: MXene-Enabled Electronic and Photonic Devices
Hyunho Kim, Husam N. Alshareef
SJR Q1ACS Materials Letters

MXenes are a rapidly growing family of two-dimensional (2D) materials based on transition-metal carbides and nitrides that have shown great potential as multifunctional nanomaterials. Their unique combination of metallic conductivity, hydrophilicity, and highly charged surfaces endow them with excellent electrochemical performance. Yes, these same characteristics are equally important in electronic and optoelectronic applications of MXenes, which are henceforth termed MXetronics. MXenes are suit

A predominantly nuclear RNA-binding protein, HuR translocates to the cytoplasm in response to stress and proliferative signals, where it stabilizes or modulates the translation of target mRNAs. Here, we present evidence that HuR phosphorylation at S202 by the G2-phase kinase Cdk1 influences its subcellular distribution. HuR was specifically phosphorylated in synchronous G2-phase cultures; its cytoplasmic levels increased by Cdk1-inhibitory interventions and declined in response to Cdk1-activatin

SJR Q1Journal of Lipid ResearchOA

Skin aging can be attributed to photoaging (extrinsic) and chronological (intrinsic) aging. Photoaging and intrinsic aging are induced by damage to human skin attributable to repeated exposure to ultraviolet (UV) irradiation and to the passage of time, respectively. In our previous report, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) was found to inhibit UV-induced matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) expression in human dermal fibroblasts. Therefore, we investigated the effects of EPA on UV-induced skin damage an

Primary cilia contain specific receptors and channel proteins that sense the extracellular milieu. Defective ciliary function causes ciliopathies such as autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). However, little is known about how large ciliary transmembrane proteins traffic to the cilia. Polycystin-1 (PC1) and -2 (PC2), the two ADPKD gene products, are large transmembrane proteins that co-localize to cilia where they act to control proper tubular diameter. Here we describe that PC1

The primed microenvironment of future metastatic sites, called the pre-metastatic niche, is a prerequisite for overt metastasis. However, a mechanistic understanding of the contributions of recruited cells to the niche is hindered by complex in vivo systems. Herein, a microfluidic platform that incorporates endothelial cells and extracellular matrix (ECM) scaffolds is developed, and the distinct role of recruited monocytes and macrophages in establishing pre-metastatic niches is delineated. SJR Q1Journal of Lipid ResearchOA

Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation regulates UV-responsive genes, including matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Moreover, UV-induced MMPs cause connective tissue damage and the skin to become wrinkled and aged. Here, we investigated the effect of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), a dietary omega-3 fatty acid, on UV-induced MMP-1 expression in human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs). We found that UV radiation increases MMP-1 expression and that this is mediated by p44 and p42 MAP kinase (ERK) and Jun-N-terminal kina

Colloidal Photonic Assemblies for Colorful Radiative Cooling
Hyeon Ho Kim, Eunji Im, Seungwoo Lee
SJR Q1Langmuir

Radiative cooling has proven to be a powerful strategy for sustainable thermal management. Nanophotonic structures enabling broadband reflection lead to minimization of sunlight absorption, which has brought nighttime-limited radiative cooling into daytime applications. However, this broadband reflection strategy in turn restricts the accessible colorization of radiative coolers to white or neutral, consequently hindering their practical applications, particularly for aesthetic purposes. With a

Wetting‐Assisted Crack‐ and Wrinkle‐Free Transfer of Wafer‐Scale Graphene onto Arbitrary Substrates over a Wide Range of Surface Energies
Hyun Ho Kim, Seong‐Kyu Lee, Seung Goo Lee, Eunho Lee, Kilwon Cho
SJR Q1Advanced Functional Materials

The polymer‐supported wet transfer of chemical vapor deposition‐grown graphene provides high‐quality large‐area graphene on a target substrate. The transfer‐induced defects that result from these processes, such as micrometer‐scale folds and cracks, have been regarded as an inevitable problem. Here, the transfer processes are thoroughly examined stage‐by‐stage and it is found that lamination wrinkles, which cause defects in the graphene, are generated as a result of the high contact angles of th
