이화 교수의 연구실은 코와 눈의 해부학적 구조, 특히 난류도관 및 시신경의 해부학적 특성과 기능적 이상에 대한 고해상도 영상유도 분석을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 어린이에서의 난류도관 폐쇄 치료 계획 수립을 위한 정밀 해부학적 측정, 시신경의 조기 손상 여부 평가, 그리고 미용 및 복구 수술을 위한 눈꺼풀 윤곽의 연령에 따른 변화 분석 등 임상적 응용에 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 특히 영상 유도 생체정보를 기반으로 한 개인 맞춤형 수술 전략 수립이 핵심 연구 방향입니다.

Normal eyelid contour in Asians was the shape of an arch that has higher temporal lid contour than the nasal one. There were remarkable decreases in midpupil lid distances in the temporal sectors of the lid fissure with aging, especially at the lateral canthal end. Consideration of the normal shapes and parameters of eyelid contour may improve preoperative planning in aesthetic and reconstruction procedures of the eyelid to restore youthful eyelids.
Unilateral NLD obstruction appears to occur on the side in which the nasal septum is deviated, and nasal septal deviation tends to be toward the smaller side of the face. Also, the degree of facial asymmetry and nasal septal deviation may affect NLD obstruction. This study showed that facial asymmetry and nasal septal deviation could be a cause of unilateral NLD obstruction. This finding can aid in differentiating lacrimal duct obstruction, especially when combined with physical examination.
Our study revealed that the entire orbicularis oculi muscle layer remained morphologically intact with aging. Moreover, our findings suggests that a minimally invasive surgical approach with muscle sparing in upper blepharoplasty in selected patients could yield good results in terms of cosmetic outcomes and upper eyelid function while minimizing postoperative complications.
Trapdoor fractures of the orbital floor revealed a high incidence of persistent diplopia associated with extraocular muscle and soft tissue entrapment in the pediatric population, but actual entrapment of the muscle belly was confirmed in only 27.8% of patients endoscopically.
