15A microwave-based device has been developed to treat axillary hyperhidrosis by selectively heating the interface between the skin and underlying fat in the axilla. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of microwave-based devices for axillary hyperhidrosis and osmidrosis in Asians. Eleven patients (8 females and 3 males, age range 20-52 years, mean age 37.6 years) with axillary hyperhidrosis or osmidrosis were enrolled, treated with the microwave-based device, and followed
BACKGROUND: Mycobacterial infections transmitted by acupuncture are an emerging problem. There have been two reports of mycobacterial infections complicating acupuncture in the English literature. AIM: To describe the clinical manifestations and treatment of patients who acquired localized Mycobacterium abscessus infection in the process of acupuncture. METHODS: Clinical manifestations and responses to different methods of treatment were reviewed in 40 patients who developed various skin lesions
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease in which T-helper type 2 (Th2)-type immune responses are dominant. Th2 cytokine, interleukin (IL)-33 and thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) have been suggested to have an important role in AD. IL-33 is highly expressed in AD, but its role in AD has not yet been fully understood. To further identify the role of IL-33 in AD, we investigated the expression of TSLP induced by IL-33 in keratinocytes. This study revealed that IL-33 induced
Background: Laser and light-based therapies have often been used successfully to treat rosacea. Recently, short-pulsed intense pulsed light (IPL) that emitted pulse durations down to 0.5 ms was found to be effective for rosacea treatment. Objective: This study evaluated the efficacy of short-pulsed IPL in the treatment of rosacea compared with pulsed dye laser (PDL) using same pulse duration and fluence. Materials and Methods: Nine patients with rosacea were enrolled in a ra
BACKGROUND: Previous studies have reported that patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) have a significantly lower risk of cancer. Studies reporting prevalence of skin cancers in Parkinson's disease mostly involve Caucasians. OBJECTIVE: A nationwide population-based study was conducted to determine the risk of skin cancer in patients diagnosed with PD in Korea. METHODS: Data obtained from National Health Insurance Claims records were used to retrieve information about 70 780 patients with newly d
BACKGROUND: There are many collagen-stimulating fillers, including calcium hydroxyapatite, polycaprolactone (PCL), and poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), and other materials have been tested. Polydioxanone (PDO) has recently been used as absorbable thread-lifting material due to its collagen-forming effects. PDO in powdered form is expected to be a good material for collagen-producing fillers. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the collagen-producing effects of powdered PDO injection compared with PLLA injection i
BACKGROUND: Skin aging is characterized by wrinkles, rough skin texture, pigmentation, facial erythema, and telangiectasia through structural and functional changes in the epidermis and dermis. Recently, injectable poly(D, L-lactic acid), a biodegradable polymer, has been used widely for skin rejuvenation. AIMS: This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of injectable dermal poly D, L-lactic acid) for skin rejuvenation. PATIENTS/METHODS: A total of 16 patients who desired skin rejuvenatio
We were able to observe more collagen production in multiple stranded PDO threads compared to a single strand and that increasing number of threads leads to more collagen synthesis.
Intense focused ultrasound can be used as a non-invasive skin tightening technique in Asian patients. It induced collagen generation in the dermis and fat layers and was effective and safe in our study population.
The results of this study indicate that submental fat can be safely and effectively reduced with use of a cryolipolysis applicator. The present study shows that cryolipolysis can be an option for nonsurgical facial contouring.
One treatment using a flat vacuum cryolipolysis applicator was safe and effective to reduce arm fat.
Acne is a common skin disease that occurs in pilosebaceous units and is often prevalent in adolescence. There are many acne treatments, but they are associated with side effects, such as antibiotic resistance, teratogenicity, and irritation. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a more effective and safe alternative treatment for managing acne in patients of all ages. This study aimed to confirm the effect of gold photothermal therapy for acne. About 12 patients who visited the dermatologic clin
Non-invasive selective cryolipolysis has been reported to be a safe and effective treatment modality for the reduction of excess adipose tissue. Therefore, cryolipolysis is a promising technology that could be an appropriate and safe therapeutic option for subcutaneous fat reduction.
