15Congenital abnormalities of the coronary arteries are an uncommon but important cause of chest pain and, in some cases of hemodynamically significant abnormalities, sudden cardiac death. For several decades, premorbid diagnosis of coronary artery anomalies has been made with conventional angiography. However, this imaging technique has limitations due to its projectional and invasive nature. The recent development of electrocardiographically (ECG)-gated multi-detector row computed tomography (CT
BACKGROUND: Three known risk factors for aortic atherosclerosis predict the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD): aortic calcification (AC), aortic wall thickness (AWT), and aortic distensibility (AD). PURPOSE: To determine the relationship of AC, AWT, and AD with the severity of CAD. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 104 patients who underwent both coronary CT angiography (CCTA) and invasive coronary angiography were enrolled. The severity of CAD was assessed by three methods: the segment i
Thoracic involvement of amyloidosis is relatively rare, but mediastinal lymphadenopathy in the absence of pulmonary parenchymal involvement is extremely rare. The case presented here is of a previously healthy elderly woman who developed a palpable mass in the right supraclavicular area. The chest CT scan showed extensive, contiguous and homogeneous low attenuated lymphadenopathy with stippled calcification in the right supraclavicular area and mediastinum. Amyloidosis was confirmed histopatholo
No published studies have evaluated the accuracy of volumetric measurement of solid nodules and ground-glass nodules on low-dose or ultra-low-dose chest computed tomography, reconstructed using deep learning-based algorithms. This is an important issue in lung cancer screening. Our study aimed to investigate the accuracy of semiautomatic volume measurement of solid nodules and ground-glass nodules, using two deep learning-based image reconstruction algorithms (Truefidelity and ClariCT.AI), compa
A 67-year-old lady was referred to our hospital because of abnormal findings on a simple chest radiograph. The chest radiograph showed a markedly prominent left cardiac border (Panel A). Because a radiolucent cleft (Panel A, arrow heads) was observed in the lower medial side of the bulge, the bulging shadow rather looked like a longish mass (Panel A, asterisk). She had a complaint of atypical chest discomfort and a history of embolic stroke. Physical …
The pectoralis muscle is an important indicator of respiratory muscle function and has been linked to various parenchymal biomarkers, such as airflow limitation severity and diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide, which are widely used in diagnosing parenchymal diseases, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Pectoralis muscle segmentation is a method for measuring muscle volume and mass for various applications. The segmentation method is based on deep-learning techniques t
The results indicate that the phase contrast X-ray microtomography and microradiography using polychromatic synchrotron X-ray is feasible for evaluation of microstructure of the lung.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of phase contrast X-ray microtomography and microradiography, using a polychromatic synchrotron X-ray, for analysis of the mouse lung microstructure. Materials and Methods: Normal mice were used for experiments. Some of the mouse lungs were prepared by the lung fixation-inflation method. The resulting sponge-like inflated lung samples were used for microtomography. The remaining mouse lungs were cut into 10 um sections and were us
