MUC1, MUC2, MUC5AC, and MUC6 expressions in gastric carcinomas

SJR Q1CancerOA

Mucin expression is altered in gastric adenoma and carcinoma, and MUC1 mucin expression is significantly associated with poorer outcome in gastric carcinomas. A MUC1-negative plus p53-negative pattern or a MUC2-negative plus p53-positive pattern may predict outcome in patients with gastric carcinomas.

SJR Q1The Journal of Pathology

The loss of tumour suppressor genes (TSGs) is a key event in many human cancers, including gastric carcinoma. Many TSG candidates have been studied, but their roles in gastric carcinogenesis remain unclear. To clarify the clinical significance of TSG expression in gastric carcinoma, the expression of various TSG candidates (p53, E-cadherin, FHIT, smad4, rb, VHL, PTEN, MGMT, p16, and KAI1), as well as other proteins (bcl-2, MUC1, MUC2, MUC5AC, MUC6, CEA, CD44, beta-catenin, C-erbB2, and cyclin B2

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

This study aimed at determining the incidence and clinical implications of HER2 status in primary colorectal cancer (CRC). HER2 status was investigated in two retrospective cohorts of 365 consecutive CRC patients (cohort 1) and 174 advanced CRC patients with synchronous or metachronous distant metastasis (cohort 2). HER2 status was determined by performing dual-color silver in-situ hybridization (SISH), mRNA in-situ hybridization (ISH), and immunohistochemistry (IHC). The incidence of HER2 prote

PURPOSE: EBV has been detected in 2-16% of gastric carcinomas. However, there is little information available about the gene expression profile of EBV-positive gastric carcinomas. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: EBV infection was examined using EBV-encoded small RNAs (EBERs) in situ hybridization, and 63 (5.6%) of 1127 consecutive gastric carcinomas were found to be EBV-positive. The expressions of 27 tumor-associated proteins were evaluated immunohistochemically in 63 EBV-positive gastric carcinomas and 2

Akt/PKB activation in gastric carcinomas correlates with clinicopathologic variables and prognosis

SJR Q1Apmis

Akt/protein kinase B (PKB) plays an important role in cell survival. However, the role of Akt in the biology of gastric cancer has not been well studied. We sought to investigate the expression of Akt or phosphorylated Akt (pAkt) in human gastric carcinomas and to analyze the relationship between Akt or pAkt and the clinicopathologic parameters. The expressions of Akt and pAkt were evaluated immunohistochemically in 311 gastric carcinomas using the tissue array method. Akt expression was detecte

PURPOSE: Gastric cancer is heterogeneous clinically and histologically, and prognosis prediction by tumor grade or type is difficult. Although previous studies have suggested that frozen tissue-based molecular classifications effectively predict prognosis, prognostic classification on formalin-fixed tissue is needed, especially in early gastric cancer. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: We immunostained 659 consecutive gastric cancers using 56 tumor-associated antibodies and the tissue array method. Hierarchi

Considering the high incidence of plasma mSEPT9 in intestinal or mixed type GCs similar to CRCs, GC should be examined through the plasma mSEPT9 screening test. In addition, plasma mSEPT9 is proposed as a follow-up marker in CRC patients, but further validation is required.

We sought to determine the clinicopathological significance of PD-1, LAG3, and TIM3 in gastric cancer (GC) by examining their expression and immune context. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) for PD-1, TIM3, LAG3, and tumor-infiltrating immune cell (TIIC) markers was performed in 385 stage II/III GCs. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and microsatellite stability (MSI) testing were performed for molecular classification. Chromogenic multiplex IHC (mIHC) for PD1, TIM3, LAG3, CD3, CD8, FOXP3, CD68, and cytokeratin

With recent advances in molecular diagnostic methods and targeted cancer therapies, several molecular tests have been recommended for gastric cancer (GC) and colorectal cancer (CRC). Microsatellite instability analysis of gastrointestinal cancers is performed to screen for Lynch syndrome, predict favorable prognosis, and screen patients for immunotherapy. The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor has been approved in metastatic CRCs with wildtype <i>RAS</i> (<i>KRAS</

KRAS mutations were found in 54.5% of advanced CRC patients. Our results support that subgrouping using PIK3CA and BRAF mutation or HER2 amplification status, in addition to KRAS mutation status, is helpful for managing advanced CRC patients.
