PATIENTS AND METHODS: In all, 45 patients with ureteric calculi amenable to ureteroscopic management were prospectively randomized into a stented (23) or an unstented (22) group. Standard ureteroscopic basketing and lithotripsy was used, through a ureteroscope (8.5 F) with or without ureteric dilatation.
OBJECTIVES: To develop and validate a risk calculator for prostate cancer (PCa) and clinically significant PCa (csPCa) using explainable artificial intelligence (XAI). PATIENTS AND METHODS: We used data of 3791 patients to develop and validate the risk calculator. We initially divided the data into development and validation sets. An extreme gradient-boosting algorithm was applied to the development calculator using five-fold cross-validation with hyperparameter tuning following feature selectio
The statistical analysis of RIRS learning experience revealed that 56 cases were required for reaching a plateau in the learning curve. The number of stones and the number of sites were significant predictors for stone-free status.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between low testosterone levels and prostate cancer detection risk in a biopsy population. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In all, 681 men who underwent initial 12-core transrectal prostate biopsy at our institution were included in this retrospective study. Patients were divided into groups with low (<300 ng/dL) and normal testosterone levels (≥300 ng/dL). Clinical and pathological data were analysed. RESULTS: Among 681 men, 86 men (12.6%) had low testosterone l
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of obesity on prostate cancer detection, as measured by the body mass index (BMI) in a Korean biopsy population. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the records of 1213 men who underwent transrectal ultrasonography-guided prostate biopsy at our institution. Biopsy outcomes were analysed with respect to various variables, including patient age, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), prostate volume, digital rectal examination (DRE) findings and obesity, d
We evaluated the efficacy of progressive resistance training of the pelvic floor muscle for post-prostatectomy incontinence. In this prospective study, 59 patients who underwent radical prostatectomy were evaluated preoperatively. Continence was sequentially assessed within 2 weeks postoperatively, and an exercise regimen was initiated at 6- and 12-weeks. The primary outcome was continent status and the secondary outcome was changes in muscle strength and endurance after the exercise interventio
Poor glycemic control of DM was associated with a higher risk of prostate cancer detection, including high-grade disease, in the biopsy population.
UNLABELLED: Study Type - Prognosis (cohort series) Level of Evidence 2b. What's known on the subject? and What does the study add? This study reports that patients aged 70 years or older have a higher possibility of locally advanced cancer than younger patients. Instead of conservative management, radical eradication of clinically localized prostate cancer should be actively considered in well-selected healthy patients older than 70 years. OBJECTIVE: • To analyse the differences in the clinicopa
We evaluated the surgical margin status after radical prostatectomy according to sites positive for prostate cancer on standard 12-core transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy. Among patients who underwent radical prostatectomy at Boramae Medical Center, 520 patients with preoperative prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level < 20 ng/mL and locally confined prostate cancer on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging, treated with nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy, were included in the analysi
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate preoperative predictors of positive surgical margins and their location in Korean men undergoing radical prostatectomy. METHODS: A total of 3227 patients who had undergone radical prostatectomy (open, robotic or laparoscopic) for clinically localized prostate cancer at three centers between 2000 and 2010 were analyzed. Patients were stratified by using the D'Amico risk criteria. Positive surgical margins were categorized according to their location. Patients were divided d
We aim to investigate the significance of intravesical prostate protrusion (IPP) on the prognosis of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) after the transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT). For newly diagnosed NMIBC, we retrospectively analyzed the association between prognosis and IPP for at least a 5-year follow-up. A degree of IPP over 5 mm in a preoperative CT scan was classified as severe. The primary endpoint was recurrence-free survival, and the secondary endpoint was progr
