Due to improvements in chemotherapeutic agents, cancer treatment efficacy and cancer patient survival rates have greatly improved, but unfortunately gonadal damage remains a major complication. Gonadotoxic chemotherapy, including alkylating agents during reproductive age, can lead to iatrogenic premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), and loss of fertility. In recent years, the demand for fertility preservation has increased dramatically among female cancer patients. Currently, embryo and oocyte c
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the type-specific human papillomavirus (HPV) persistence or regression in women with or less than low-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). METHODS: This prospective cohort study included patients with or less than cytological low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (or histologically CIN 1 when biopsy was performed) combined with HPV infection. The cohort was collected from July 2006 to November 2011 at Korea University Guro Hospital. Follow-up was performed w
PURPOSE: The study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of polymerase chain reaction ‒based high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) assays on self-collected vaginal and urine samples for detection of precancerous cervical lesions in referral population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Women referred for colposcopy following abnormal cytology, were included this study. A total of 314 matched urine, vaginal, and cervical samples were collected. All samples were tested for HPV DNA using the RealTime HR-S
This study showed that six pregnancy-related factors-advanced maternal age, multiparity, multifetal pregnancy, cesarean section, delivery of a large-for-gestational-age infant, and preeclampsia-are positively correlated with future development of endometrial neoplasia, including endometrial hyperplasia or cancer. Close observation and surveillance are warranted to enable early diagnosis of endometrial diseases, including endometrial cancer after pregnancy in high-risk women. However, due to unav

BACKGROUND: Non-obstetric surgery during pregnancy is associated with adverse obstetric and fetal outcomes. The aim of this study was to investigate the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes for women who underwent non-obstetric pelvic surgery during pregnancy compared with that of women that did not undergo surgery. METHODS: Study data from women who gave birth in Korea were collected from the Korea National Health Insurance claims database between 2006 and 2016. We identified pregnant women who u
OBJECTIVE: To identify high-risk HPV (hrHPV) genotypes associated with high-grade vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VaIN), and evaluate the efficacy of various treatments for high-grade VaIN. METHODS: A retrospective review of outcomes among women diagnosed with VaIN after vaginal punch biopsy conducted due to an abnormal Papanicolaou smear or positive test for hrHPV at a hospital in Seoul, Korea, from 2013 to 2018. Logistic regression was used to identify variables associated with abnormal pat
Since the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine guidelines were developed by the Korean Society of Gynecologic Oncology (KSGO) in 2011, 2016, and 2019, several recent studies on the efficacy and safety of HPV vaccines in middle-aged women and men have been reported. Furthermore, there has been an ongoing debate regarding the efficacy of the HPV vaccine in women with prior HPV infection or who have undergone conization for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). We searched and reviewed studies on
The purpose of this study was to investigate doctors' and patients' perceptions of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 1 (CIN 1) and its treatment methods. A survey questionnaire was offered to obstetrics and gynaecology doctors and patients with CIN 1 in 2017. Only 43% of patients knew of this disease. Regarding perceptions of its aetiology, 64% of the patients perceived human papillomavirus infection to be the main cause of CIN 1. Patients' most preferred treatments were medication (20%), follo
