15Importance: Data on P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy after short-duration dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention are limited. Objective: To determine whether P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy after 3 months of DAPT is noninferior to 12 months of DAPT in patients undergoing PCI. Design, Setting, and Participants: The SMART-CHOICE trial was an open-label, noninferiority, randomized study that was conducted in 33 hospitals in Korea and included 2993 patients
BACKGROUND: The optimal duration of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) after implantation of drug-eluting coronary stents remains undetermined. We aimed to test whether 6-month DAPT would be noninferior to 12-month DAPT after implantation of drug-eluting stents. METHODS AND RESULTS: We randomly assigned 1443 patients undergoing implantation of drug-eluting stents to receive 6- or 12-month DAPT (in a 1:1 ratio). The primary end point was a target vessel failure, defined as the composite of cardiac
BACKGROUND: Whether final kissing ballooning (FKB) is mandatory in the 1-stent technique is uncertain. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of FKB on long-term clinical outcomes in coronary bifurcation lesions treated with the 1-stent technique. METHODS: Consecutive patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention using drug-eluting stents for non-left main bifurcation lesions were enrolled from 16 centres in Korea between January 2004 and June 2006. In patients treated with the 1-stent techn
OBJECTIVES: To describe a novel modification of the T-stenting technique and to report the bench test as well as the first clinical results obtained. BACKGROUND: The best technique to treat bifurcated coronary lesions has not been defined. METHODS: This novel modification of the T-stenting technique is based, after stenting of the main vessel (MV) and kissing balloon, on the intentional minimal protrusion of the side-branch (SB) stent within the MV. Final kissing balloon is performed using the b
Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) is an effective mechanical circulatory support for cardiopulmonary failure. Conventionally, an arterial cannula over 15 Fr is inserted for full circulatory support in peripheral VA ECMO. However, limited data are available regarding the impact of cannula size on clinical and procedural outcomes. Between January 2014 and April 2016, 165 patients underwent peripheral VA ECMO with femoral artery cannulation were enrolled in a single-center
Smaller guiding catheters can help reduce local complications and patient morbidity during transradial coronary intervention (TRI). This study was designed to compare the patient's morbidity, success rate, and the operator's convenience between 5-French (5Fr) and 6-French (6Fr) TRIs. This is a single-center prospective randomized study. Patients who underwent TRI, in 2003, were prospectively randomized to either 5Fr or 6Fr catheter groups (100 patients in each group).
