Lung cancer has a high mortality rate, but an early diagnosis can contribute to a favorable prognosis. A liquid biopsy that captures and detects tumor-related biomarkers in body fluids has great potential for early-stage diagnosis. Exosomes, nanosized extracellular vesicles found in blood, have been proposed as promising biomarkers for liquid biopsy. Here, we demonstrate an accurate diagnosis of early-stage lung cancer, using deep learning-based surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) of the

Early cancer detection has significant clinical value, but there remains no single method that can comprehensively identify multiple types of early-stage cancer. Here, we report the diagnostic accuracy of simultaneous detection of 6 types of early-stage cancers (lung, breast, colon, liver, pancreas, and stomach) by analyzing surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy profiles of exosomes using artificial intelligence in a retrospective study design. It includes classification models that recognize sign

The Effects of Pulsatile Flow Upon Renal Tissue Perfusion During Cardiopulmonary Bypass: A Comparative Study of Pulsatile and Nonpulsatile Flow
Hyun Koo Kim, Ho Sung Son, Yong Hu Fang, Sung Young Park, Chang Mo Hwang, Kyung Sun
SJR Q1ASAIO Journal

This study was conducted to directly compare the effects of pulsatile and nonpulsatile blood flow in the extracorporeal circulation upon renal tissue perfusion by using a tissue perfusion measurement system. A total cardiopulmonary bypass circuit was constructed to accommodate twelve Yorkshire swine, weighing 20 approximately 30 kg. Animals were randomly assigned to group 1 (n = 6, nonpulsatile centrifugal pump) or group 2 (n = 6, pulsatile T-PLS pump). A tissue perfusion measurement probe (Q-Fl

OBJECTIVES: Near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence imaging provides surgeons with real-time visual information during surgery. The purpose of this pilot trial was to evaluate the safety and feasibility of the intraoperative detection of pulmonary neoplasms with NIR fluorescence imaging after low-dose indocyanine green (ICG) injection. METHODS: Eleven consecutive patients who were scheduled to undergo resection of pulmonary neoplasms were enrolled in this study. ICG (1 mg/kg) was administered intraveno

SJR Q1Annals of Surgery

OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to develop a fluorescent iodized emulsion comprising indocyanine green (ICG) solution and lipiodol (ethiodized oil) and evaluate its feasibility for use in a clinical setting. BACKGROUND: ICG use for the preoperative localization of pulmonary nodules is limited in terms of penetration depth and diffusion. METHODS: First, fluorescent microscopy was used to investigate the distribution of ICG-lipiodol emulsions prepared using different methods. The emulsions wer

The Muscle Activation Method: An Approach to Impedance Control of Brain-Machine Interfaces Through a Musculoskeletal Model of the Arm

SJR Q1IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering

Current demonstrations of brain-machine interfaces (BMIs) have shown the potential for controlling neuroprostheses under pure motion control. For interaction with objects, however, pure motion control lacks the information required for versatile manipulation. This paper investigates the idea of applying impedance control in a BMI system. An extraction algorithm incorporating a musculoskeletal arm model was developed for this purpose. The new algorithm, called the muscle activation method (MAM),

Highly sensitive and selective anticancer effect by conjugated HA-cisplatin in non-small cell lung cancer overexpressed with CD44

SJR Q3Experimental Lung Research

In spite of severe side effects, chemotherapy is widely used as a major anticancer treatment in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In order to enhance the therapeutic properties and reduce side effects, enormous efforts have been devoted to direct anticancer agents specifically to tumor tissues by the use of nanoparticles, or cancer cell marker attached drugs. However, cell-specific chemotherapy is still in its infancy and is not applicable to all types of cancers due to the complexity of the c

OBJECTIVE: In the previous report, to simplify the synthesis and labelling procedures and to improve the biological properties, we developed a novel mannose receptor-binding agent, technetium-99m human serum albumin (99mTc-MSA), for sentinel lymph node detection. This study is the first clinical trial designed to test the reliability and feasibility of sentinel node detection using this new radioactive agent in patients with stage I non-small cell lung cancer. METHODS: Forty-two patients (30 men

IEEE Transactions on Systems Man and Cybernetics - Part A Systems and Humans

The human arm exhibits outstanding manipulability in executing various tasks by taking advantage of its intrinsic compliance, force sensation, and tactile contact clues. By examining human strategy in controlling arm impedance, we may be able to understand underlying human motor control and develop control methods for dexterous robotic manipulation. This paper presents a novel method for estimating multijoint stiffness by using electromyogram (EMG) and an artificial neural network model. The art
