SJR Q2Tissue Engineering Part A

We developed three-dimensional electrospun silk fibroin (ESF) scaffolds with controllable pore size. The purpose of this study was to evaluate ESF scaffolds with pores (P-ESF) for bone regeneration via in vitro and in vivo studies, with a comparison to a commercially available porous three-dimensional polylactic acid (PLA) scaffold. P-ESF supported significantly higher proliferation and alkaline phosphatase activity of osteoblasts than PLA in vitro (p < 0.05). Moreover, higher expression levels

SJR Q2Planta Medica

A possible role of cytochrome P450 (P450) inhibition by red ginseng saponins in carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced lipid peroxidation was investigated in liver microsomes prepared from male Sprague Dawley rats. The total saponin of red ginseng standardized on ginsenosides-Rb1, -Rb2, -Rc, -Rd, -Re, and -Rg1 whose composition was studied in our previous report was used in the present study. The standardized saponin of red ginseng showed inhibitory effects on P450-associated monooxygenase activiti

SJR Q1Anesthesia & Analgesia

The use of esophageal stethoscope-obturated ETTs was effective, and comparable to thermosoftening, in preventing epistaxis associated with nasotracheal intubation. Thermosoftened, obturated ETTs were more effective than simple thermosoftened ETTs in reducing epistaxis.

The mitochondrial calcium regulator cyclophilin D is an essential component of oestrogen-mediated neuroprotection in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Hyun Jeong Kim, Jordi Magrané, Anatoly A. Starkov, Giovanni Manfredi
SJR Q1BrainOA

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a devastating neurodegenerative disorder that is more prevalent in males than in females. A similar gender difference has been reported in some strains of transgenic mouse models of familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis harbouring the G93A mutation in CuZn superoxide dismutase. Mitochondrial damage caused by pathological alterations in Ca(2+) accumulation is frequently involved in neurodegenerative diseases, including CuZn superoxide dismutase-related amyotrophi

SJR Q2Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine

The aim of this study was to evaluate the regenerative capacity of a newly developed nerve guidance conduit using electrospun silk fibroin (SFNC) implanted in a 10-mm defect of the sciatic nerve in rats. After evaluating the physical properties and cytocompatibility of SFNC in vitro, rats were randomly allocated into three groups: defect only, autograft and SFNC. To compare motor function and abnormal sensation among groups, ankle stance angle (ASA) and severity of autotomy were observed for 10

A fused-deposition modeling (FDM) 3D-printed polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG)-sepiolite composite showed effective synergetic mechanical reinforcement in tensile testing compared to an injection-molded composite. The results showed that the addition of 3 phr sepiolite improved the tensile strength of 3D-printed PETG samples by 35.4%, while the tensile strength of injection-molded PETG samples was improved by 7.2%. To confirm these phenomena, FDM PETG-sepiolite composites were investigate

RhoA-JNK Regulates the E-Cadherin Junctions of Human Gingival Epithelial Cells
Giuk Lee, Hyun Jeong Kim, Hak‐Min Kim, H.-M. Kim, H.-M. Kim
SJR Q1Journal of Dental Research

The junctional epithelium (JE) is unique with regard to its wide intercellular spaces and sparsely developed intercellular junctions. Thus, knowledge of the molecular mechanisms that regulate the formation of the intercellular junctions of the junctional epithelium may be essential to understand the pathophysiology of the JE. HOK-16B cells, a normal human gingival epithelial cell line, were used to identify the molecules involved in the regulation of the formation of intercellular E-cadherin jun

BACKGROUND: Efforts to profile atopic dermatitis (AD) tissues have intensified, yet comprehensive analysis of systemic immune landscapes in severe AD remains crucial. METHODS: Employing single-cell RNA sequencing, we analyzed over 300,000 peripheral blood mononuclear cells from 12 severe AD patients (Eczema area and severity index (EASI) > 21) and six healthy controls. RESULTS: Results revealed significant immune cell shifts in AD patients, including increased Th2 cell abundance, reduced NK cell

Cobalt Chloride-induced Apoptosis and Extracellular Signal-regulated Protein Kinase Activation in Human Cervical Cancer HeLa Cells

SJR Q1BMB ReportsOA

The molecular mechanism of hypoxia-induced apoptosis has not been clearly elucidated. In this study, we investigated the involvement of extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase (ERK 1/2) in hypoxia-induced apoptosis using cobalt chloride in HeLa human cervical cancer cells. The cobalt chloride was used for the induction of hypoxia, and its IC(50) was 471.4 microM. We demonstrated the DNA fragmentation after incubation with concentrations more than 50 microM cobalt chloride for 24 h, and als
