15Nutritional risk was detected in 30% of ambulatory ADPKD patients with relatively good renal function. Intra-abdominal organomegaly was related to nutritional status independently from renal function deterioration.
Few studies have investigated the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the Asian chronic kidney disease (CKD) population. This study assessed the incidence of CVD, death, and a composite outcome of CVD and death in a prospective Korean predialysis CKD cohort. From a total of 2179 patients, incidence rates were analyzed, and competing risk analyses were conducted according to CKD stage. Additionally, incidence was compared to the general population. During a median 4.1 years of follow-up,
These results demonstrated that segmental BIA parameters of ECW/TBWWB, ECW/TBWTR, ECW/TBWLE and PhALE provide useful information on nutritional status including the impact of organomegaly in ADPKD.
An immunosuppressant weaning protocol in failing allografts has not yet been established. Maintaining immunosuppressants would preserve residual renal function (RRF) and prevent graft intolerance syndrome and sensitization but would increase the risks of infection and malignancy. In this study, graft failure cases after kidney transplantation in a single center were reviewed retrospectively. The outcome differences in all-cause mortality, infection-related hospitalization, cancer, graft intolera
Thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) is a rare complication of gemcitabine treatment. A 55-year-old man with a history of urothelial cancer underwent right ureteronephrectomy and palliative chemotherapy. The patient presented with dyspnea, generalized edema with foamy urine, and new-onset hypertension with acute kidney injury (AKI). Although AKI with oliguria was evident, thrombocytopenia and hemolytic anemia were not overt. To determine the cause of rapidly progressive azotemia, kidney biopsy was p
Abstract The causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects its outcomes. However, the relative risks for adverse outcomes according to specific causes of CKD is not well established. In a prospective cohort study from KNOW-CKD, a cohort was analyzed using overlap propensity score weighting methods. Patients were grouped into four categories according to the cause of CKD: glomerulonephritis (GN), diabetic nephropathy (DN), hypertensive nephropathy (HTN), or polycystic kidney disease (PKD). From
Introduction Patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) reach end-stage renal disease in their fifth decade on average. For effective treatment and early intervention, identifying subgroups with rapid disease progression is important in ADPKD. However, there are no epidemiological data on the clinical manifestations and disease progression of patients with ADPKD from the Asia-Pacific region. Methods and analysis The RAPID-ADPKD ( R etrospective epidemiological study of A
BACKGROUND: The association between glomerulonephritis (GN) and cancer has been well known for decades. However, studies evaluating long-term de novo cancer development in patients with GN are limited. This study aimed to evaluate the incidence of cancer development among patients with renal biopsy-proven GN during post-biopsy follow-up and the differences in outcomes according to cancer occurrence. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of adult patients who underwent renal biopsy a

BACKGROUND: Vitamin D deficiency is an important health concern because it is related to several comorbidities and mortality. However, its relationship with the risk of hematuria remains undetermined in the general population. In this study, we analyzed the association between vitamin D deficiency and hematuria. METHODS: We conducted cross-sectional analysis using data of participants from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) 2010-2014. A total of 20,240 particip

Abstract Background and Aims The cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of important factors for predicting the outcome. However, relative risks for the adverse outcomes according to the specific causes of CKD is unknown. Method Using the longitudinal data of prospective cohort of Korean predialysis CKD, KNOW-CKD cohort, the relative risk of end-stage renal disease (ESRD), composite of ESRD development or creatinine doubling, and composite of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mort
